MY FAVORITE FISHING MEMORIES

This is a short story of my favorite fishing memories by Dave V
As I sit here thinking through all the times I have gone fishing in my life. I've been trying to come up with memoires that I would consider my most favorite. I find it very difficult to pickout just one. I could start by saying my most favoite memory would be the times my dad would take me to Moxie Lake in Maine and we would troll our Grey Ghost in the dark waters hoping for its then famous Landlock salmon to test us and or equipment. Like the day we trolled right in front of a fishing lodge and landed two nice salmon right in front of the fishing guides and their clients. I remember my dad's big smile and deep loud laugh as I reached out and lifted a four pounder into the net. We made another pass and I swear I netted his twin. Oh how my dad gloated.Maybe it was when I took my daughter Christine and my son DJ fishing on the little Madawaska stream in northern Maine where I watched DJ hook his first fish. I laughed out loud as I watched DJ's excitement. A nice brook trout swam down stream making his reel scream. I could see his little arms pull as if he were fighting a blue marlin. When I finally reached down with my net and scooped up a very colorful brookie not the biggest I have ever seen but it was my sons first, His smile ever so big and as we gave high fives I knew l would never forget this day nor would he .
It might be on that same trip when my daughter let out a big scream and I looked at her horrified face as a leech had attached itself to her toe. I ran to her aid letting her know it will be ok I will get it off her if she would only stop jumping around like a jack rabbit running running over hot coals. I removed it by putting some hot sand on it and held her in my arms wiping the tears from her face. Soon her tears were replaced with laughter as she to hooked her very first trout. A nice two pound brook trout the largest of that trip. I know she will never forget this fish because she reminds me everytime we go fishing who caught the biggest fish that day.
Another fond memory , the day my wife Stephanie my stepson Mike and I went to the Whitlock Bay South Dakaota for some good old smallmouth fishing , It was overcast and the water was high. Great day for fishing. We caught several nice bronze backs that day but what makes this day special is the giant pike Mike hooked into. The biggest pike I have ever seen . For a boy who was only twelve he faught that fish like a pro .This fish made runs up and down the bay into the weeds over the rocks and into the brush piles. I thought Mike could never land this fish. After what seemed like an eternity he managed to bring massive pike to the shore close enough for me to land . I had no net so I tried to gill him. Just as the fish was half on shore snap the line broke without even a thought I kicked that fish like a football up onto the bank and dove onto the fish. This fish was over fifteen pounds. While I tried to show Mike how to get his fly out of the pikes mouth the fish snapped his jaws forward right on Mikes trigger finger. yup a nice little cut. I don't think it bothered Mike to much because I had him hold the pike up for his extreamly excited proud mom . We named the fish Walter and let the pike slide back into the water. Every time we go fishing at Whitlock we try to catch Walter.
Now I have to chose a favorite. I have come to the conclusion this would be an impossible task . I would have to say every fishing trip is now my favorite. But if I had to choose just one. Hmm let me think for a second. Alright I would have to say without a doubt my most favorite memory would have to be. Every fishing trip I have ever gone on with my family , friends and my dog Sage
