I read this article before somewhere. It is great to know that their is preservation like this going on. It is sad that such a prize fishing area was almost wiped out by rainbow smelt.
F&G believe that it was with good intentions this species was introduced but ignorance prevailed. Since the smelt they figure was inroduced as forage for the char, but they turned out to be so aggressive it competed heavily with char for food, and it was aggresive enough to wipe out each years young.
