The 270 is the caliber that I love, my Browning rifle that I got back in the early sixties is a 270. I used to read a lot about Jack when I was young and still hunted.

The Winchester Model 70 in .270 is a very reliable and accurate weapon. Where I grew up hunting open meadows that could quickly turn to long tracts of timber, the .270 was my waepon of choice. The lever action 30-30, 30-06 and .270 were the rifle calibers most often found out on opening weekend.
The .300 mag's made a big showing in the last 10 or 15 years there as well, but it is just a lot of damn wallop for laying down a 100 pounds of venison. Over kill in my opinion. Should be reserved for game like moose and bear if you ask me, but it certainly will cleanly get the job done in short order.
I liked the .270 caliber and especially the the winchester model I mentioned because it held well, and although it was a bit heavy for long hikes, I found it steady at the shoulder. It was a good reliable down range resource and had little problem at closer proximity in the hardwoods.

Nice rifle! My experiance with the Winchester M-70 in .270 is not good! The friggin safty would move into the nutral zone and I have found the bolt open in the mountains. The safety cost me the best buck I have ever seen. Then, I really didn't like the 130 gr or the 150 gr bullets! Sold it and I'll never go back. Classy looking rifle however and for those who are fans it would be a joy to own!

Winchester is making some of the older models again, like the Model 71, the 94, 1885 Hi Wall, Low wall in the 6.5 Swede, and a few others. Of particular note is the Jack O'Connor Tribute rifles. In 270 of course
For those who love the clean lines of the Model 70 these are truly rifles to die for. I do believe Jack is smiling right about now. I know I sure am
I'm surprised they didn't go all the way and stock it in Circasian Walnut like the Pre 64 Jack had Al Bisen stock for him. None the less, very well executed.
