Zig - T-Bone ? Are those Rainbows Brood Stock or just nice size hold overs ?  Either way nice fish.  Doe's that fishing pressure go on like that all year ? Or just because of opening day ?

I hope it was only because it was opening day.  I must have saw atleast 30 fish go on ice, and when you consider the fact that we have to stock salmon and trout that seems hard on that one lake's population.

I didn't happen to check any of the fish for clipped fins, but they might not have been stockies as that section we fished goes from a lake to a short stretch of river up to the dam giving fish the oppuirtuntiy to get huge.

Zig it was my pleasure to take your picture.  That was the biggest trout I have even seen angled from the water, and it was awesome just to be a part of it.

It's amazing with all that fishing pressure those fish can even get that big.  Maybe it was a first day surge and there won't be near the fisherman next time you go.

Dave opening day is always like that and quickly slows down on the pressure , all of those fish may have been stocked at one time but are all holdovers that rainbow i caught was prob 4 years old and has grown up in that water from 12" or so i talked to the biologist a while back about the spot they have brookies and browns there too, he said most migrate all the way from the merrimack river stocking they come all the way up and have no where to go once at dam . The salmon come from big lake above that strecth and get washed over dam they stack up like cord wood this time of year then i think when it gets warm they head south to the river . its like a 7-8 mile journey but they make it every year , once it slows down all i have ever caught there were huge fall fish and big bass, you can sometimes find some rainbows in the fast water .

i think people got tipped off to the spot threw one of these sites and why the pressure was like it was at least by flyfisherman was busy and prob the busiest i have seen ... lol lurkers on lees site ???? i know for sure one member mentioned it when i saw him that he heard about it ... ha ha everyone had good time and most caught fish ....

Yep lots taken but so many returned unharmed as well,  its really ok,  most of those fish would have died when the water gets warmer they are stuck there and genitically want to keep going up river . they are skinny cause they can't find the food the other fish are eating, i think thay call them( black salmon ) look at the rainbows there they have no problem on the food Smile salmon are and were stuck there during winter when they open the dam and will stay there until it gets too warm by then most will have been taken . Imagine those salmon if they were eating like the rainbows all would be 3+ lbs and fat but just not the case there unfortunatley .....

OH yeah i am headed back tomorrow to see if they are still there .......

I had to double and triple check this post to make sure I wasn't reading my own post that I forgot I posted.  This is exactly what I was thinking and almost posted.  Conservation worries me.  I don't want to fall in love with salmon fishing just to find out people are going to fish them out and that will be that.

I loved to fish and want to keep the sport alive so my son and I can enjoy it together.
