Congrats nice fish.  Will wait for report when your tired butt has recovered. Would like to hear about the flies you caught them on.

Well I'll give you some 411 from my perspectvie...

I got there at morning light and started setting up at the mouth becuase the salmon were splashing every where!  I watched a guy hook and loose one and catch his first salmon.  He was very excited since he just started fly fishing this winter.  Very cool to see that!

I started with a size 12 muddler to imitate a baitfish around the mouth and the guides where freezing bad!  I kept trying to thaw it with my hands because about every three casts wouldn't cast anymore with that kind of build up.  Between fighting the ice I got a hit but simultaneously a splash erupted next to my leg ( a salmon!) and it startled me making me loose the potential hook up.

Brandon arrived and told me he was headed up to the dam and I was torn....  Do I press my luck here or do I pack up and follow a guy that always catches fish!?  Well that was a no brainer and I made  just a few more casts and went on my way up river.

When I got there Brandon was talking to some guy who was bringing in the fish under the dam and really nice fish too!  I assumed they were friends initally but as it turns out they just met.  As they tried to set me up to catch soemthing I failed miserably, and Brandon ended up hooking this monster rainbow.  Aside fromnthe hatchery it is the biggest trout I have laid eyes on.

He was very excited.  After some more attempts there I headed back to the mouth with out Brandon and wouldn't you know it first cast is my salmon.  I netted him but wasn't abe to get much of a picture as he wouldn't stop resisting to save his own jaw and no one was around.  I beleive him to be a slender 18 inches or so.  Nice fish but not monserous by any means.

And for the record I tried to use the 2wt in the afternoon but it wasn't in the cards.  Sadly...  It would have been one hell of a show!

Very nice you two, I presume your were in Alton??  Not a spot burn since it is a well known place.  Good to hear you landed a Salmon, did the fish jump for you??  I was going to go but figured with my arm like it is and the weather cold I stayed home and got most of the raking done so maybe next week I can go fish.

See Yah
Thanks
Lee

Well Therons perspective wasn't all that far off. it was pretty darn cold and freezing guides made it a little stressful trying to get the fly in the right spot , but it was only like that for an hour or so maybe bit longer and the sun came up , i ran into a guy that was atthe place i wanted to start nice guy Scott , he caught like 6 fishin while i stood there then offered up the hole , i put on black wooly bugger with a peacock herl bugger under it to get down into the white water 1st cast wham and all i saw was the tail and the beautiful red stripe and i was on a fat rainbow i knew it was big but pleasnatly surprised when my net man got it secured in his net and he held it while i got camera out and untangled from all the excitment i finally realized how big it really was when i tried to lift it out of the net and i couldn't get my hands around it was FAT . snaped bunch of pics (thanks Theron you got some great shots for me ) and returned him unharmed was quite a few good moments on the river . Was the largest rainbow i ever gotten on the fly so a new PB . at my dismay theron didn't hook up in that same area and he decided to go back to mouth , i was actually going to go right behind himn but casted one last time and got a huge tangle took me a good 10 min to rectify it and then my phone rings and having so many pockets took me a min to locate it LOL so i missed call and saw it was t-bone i called him back and was happy to hear he got into a salmon (was bumed i wasn't there), was hoping he would get a few but thats how it goes i got schooled myself, i feel as they were there for the taking , i did how ever have a few on and lost them . Then there was the ROCK incidentEek! we are talking few of us standing along the hot hole,  about 11 am fishing my fly swings down and i feel bump i lift and feel heavy, T-bone yells out you suck HA HALaughing Out Loud all in good fun . and i am like no its a rock , i lift again and bends my 5wt in 1/2 like a 20" fish on my 3wt would LOL then the head shake and swimming starts was by far the biggest fish i have ever hooked fly fishing fought for 10-15 secons bam the hook pops out an its over i was really disapointed with that cause i could see the body and feel it was a rainbow way bigger then the one earlier just guessing of course but by the looks i would say 24" or better fish . a few guys showed up from other sites and some from here and we chatted i picked up some nymphing tricks from sebastian while he hooked and landed one salmon after another . shows i still have alot to learn about this fishing thing . we fished for few hours i think i got a sucker and that was it after that, t-bone was looking tired and finally gave inYawnYawnYawn about 130 i think , my buddy swung down and i decided i wanted a break went for lunch and hung out for a few then back down for afternoon/evening got back and they were still catching fish so i headed up to some sopts less congested lot less people after 4:00 in pool above bridge i got one nice shorter but fat rainbow and smaller skinny salmon then headed back up to dam and picked up another smaller bow and salmon . walked back and nate was waiting for me with adult beverage in hand we talked and shared some flies, he had to get going and i figured i would slip in down where some guys were fishing (everyone was very nice on the water today) no problem step in and swing a hares ear 3-4 swings and i am on nice 18 salmon that was the last of the night  was great Opening day never know from year to year some years its magical ano others not one fish to be had , i go every year cause you never know what you may get Smile

Got fish on mostly buggers , zebra midge flies, hares ear , didn't fish streamers much but i bet with weighted tip could have picked some up ..... Here are some more pics PB rainbow heavy sorry it was a beautiful fish enjoy i sure did Smile

This was scott asked him if i could snap a pic for him and send it to him he was happy to have me do so .

This was actually when it slowed down fisherman wise for a bit Smile
