Nice looking outfit.

The pleasure was mine Sir!  The pictures don't do the rod justice, it's a lot better looking when you have it in your hand.  I handle a few hundred rods in a years time and I'm tellin it straight, that rod you built is a sweetheart.  It casts like a dream.  The true test is on the water and I've found that there the rods usually do even better Big Grin

The M60 reel balances that rod right there in the grip just the way it ought to.  That helps a lot when casting, especially if you go at it all day long. Those are the smoothest reels I've ever seen and they go on forever.  After the season drop it off and I'll lube it and make any adjustments to keep it running strong.  Glad I'm in a position to give you a break on the reel and the line was a close match for the winding color.  Ya just gotta love it when a plan comes together.  BTW, that's 20# micro backing on the reel so don't be hookin into no 40 pound salmon or you'll lose the dang fly line Uber Geek

I saw the twinkle in your eye when you lit up that 1 WT prototype.  You laid out some impressive line with it right out of the gate.  Now just imagine a 14 inch brookie on that rod or a 17 inch rainbow.  Those UL fly rods are addicting once you get bit.  I'll talk to my Rep and see if he can squeeze in a couple of blanks in the next shipment  for us to play with.  I actually designed that 1 WT for small nymphs but it's insane fishing dry flies with it, all the way down to #28's.

To me, cork is dry feeling.  That's why I go out of my way to get plenty of fish slime on the grip as fast as I can.  Then it has a nice silky feel to it. Mr. Green

I'll be watching for fish pics as you break that rod in some more.  Yepper, we'll have to attack one of the streams together pretty soon. If them fish get a heads up we're comin they'll be runnin for their lives Surprised

Thanks guys i am very proud of my new set up and thanks again Koda , that rod (1wt) casted itself , if thats one area i could use some work on its my casting, i can cast my 5 wt a mile, but have had it a couple of seasons,  getting better with the 3 wt been messing around with leader length and flies seeing what it throws good and what it doesnt, i will get it down soon and get the fish a running Smile its starting to heat up fish rising early in the morning and later in afternoon even on tooky. I will be happy to try to build a 1 wt would be cool and then i would need another reel LOl i am sure i could squeeze the wife again Smile she thinks its cheaper cause i build them myself i could have gotten a great rod for 125$  next rod i would step it up some and put some money into it reel seat and nicer handle , along with snake eyelets i think ....

Well, I got myself a 6'6" 2wt today thanks to Koda.

Thanks for the visit and the casting exercise pal.  I enjoyed talking with you and the oppurtunity to get my hands on that one weight and the two weight that left with.

Ziggy!  You got to get some of those blanks turned out when he gets some in.  Maybe that is where I'll get my start in rod tying.

I am very happy and have some stream fishing to do in the future.  I've got to break that 2wt in ASAP!

Theron

Oh yeah and Koda, I would love to get my hands on one of those bear cub reels.  I hope you put them back into production soon.  It was very sweet!

I was absolutel in love with that little bear club model that Koda had for sale in the past.  I want one bad!!!!  But He soldme a sweet package deal with a cahill reel.

It was good for the wallet!  And I'm smiling as much as if I bought a $300 dollar set up. How can you argue with that?

Did I mention I want one of those bear cubs?  They are a really sweet little reel.

I was doing some of the best casting I have ever done out there beside NH Route 3A.  With 1 and 2wts I was laying out well over 20 feet of line even into the wind when it came up.  And I was afraid that I would be too rusty to lay out any line.

Hell yeah!

Yeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!  You guys are as diseased as I am with the light rods. But wait, it gets even better. Just wait till you sink a hook in a decent trout, or Hell, any fish for that matter. A 5 pound smallie on one of those rods will have you panting before you get him in the net.

Looks like I hit pay dirt with the design on that 1 weight. Both you guys laid out some very impressive casts with it. It was intended as a light rod for nymph fishing, but small dries just put it over the top.

It broke my heart when the factory shut down on those Bear Cub reels.  It broke a lot more hearts than mine, as some guys have a half dozen of them. I've spoken with REC in CT about picking up the manufacture but we all know what's going to happen if I make that move.  It will go from a $29.95 reel to a $99.95 reel.  In this economy I think it would be a bad move. Trust me, I'm pursuing every possible solution.

We'll be anxiously waiting to hear the thrilling reports of the fights on the light rods.  Mr. Green

PS- I noticed that both of you gents seem to do exceptional casting with the very fast action of that 1 Wt, and with very little effort. Both of you had casts in the 30 foot range and some even further when you hit the sweet spot. That's impressive in anybodys book with a 1 wt fly rod.

Theron, remember what I told you today. A fish don't give a hoot what we have in our hand for a fly rod and reel. It could be a $3000 cane outfit or a $20 Wally World outfit.  The stealth in which we approach the water, singling out a lair where we know a trout is holding, and then presenting a fly in a manner that apeals to the fishes senses is what counts. The light rods have the ability to float a line and fly to the surface where even a 5 weight would smack down hard and alert the fish.

Too, it's how a given rod performs in YOUR hand.  We're all a little different in our casting styles. Like you, I usually don't cast in the traditional overhead fashion but rather 45 degrees or so from vertical. And I told you why I do it like that, to stay under the limb line.

You found a rod in that 2 weight that fit you and you did very well with it.  You already have confidence in the rod so you're ahead of most. All you have to do is read the water and deliver the fly and you'll catch fish. When we head out I'll give you some pointers on reading the water.  It's really pretty easy. You just have to think like a fish. Where can I hold in a current while exerting the least amount of energy, and yet be next to a flow where a meal just passes by and I can grab it.  Oh, and a spot where I can run like Hell when Koda, T Bone, and Ziggy are after me Big Grin  Next time you are on a stream, think like that trout and you'll have him on that 2 weight in short order. I gurantee it Mr. Green
