I know you are a Google Earth guy, give me your co-ordinates.  I dunno where the Hell you are. You used to be the other side of Tewksbury Pond as I remember. Now you're down on the "Took" ?

Morse sounds familiar, but for the life of me I can't picture it. I used to live in the lawless town of New Ipswich, right up the street from Stan Bogdans NH shop.  I say lawless cuz the town was mostly Finns and they hunted deer year round.  They needed meat they just grabbed the rifle and went out and toasted one. Pretty cut and dry.  I know for fact there used to be some locals up in Pittsburgh NH that did much the same.

In these days of high unemployment I'd imagine there is much "year round" hunting going on. Which brings up the question of what do you do when you find your neighbor who has 3 little kids and hasn't been able to get work in two years dragging a deer out of the woods?  Would you help him drag it out, or call the Fish Cops?  I know what I'd do, curious what others would do and why in either case.

Lee, if you think this should be another topic please split it off accordingly.

Koda ,

The question about the deer is quite a good one? i didn't even have to think about it , i know what i would do . But there are def. too many open questions to go with this ?

Such as: does he do this only to feed his family?

Is this the 1st time he has done so?

3rd and most important to me is is it his own land?

Although the ethical part of me says to report the guy , the common sense in me says to just look the other way , as far as helping him i wouldn't do so in the chance he gets caught , i then would be quilty of poaching a deer. Is he doing anything diffrent then in past years ? nope not at all and i am sure this happens in every area of the state .

I can tell you this if i was in the woods with no money and no food i would be hunting something .... Breaking the law to feed your family doesn't make him a bad person . There are ways to get help but some people are just too proud for that .  HMMM i will ponder this while i sit on the side of the river .

You are a good man, and I pretty much knew how you would answer. It's a hyperthetical question, but one I'm sure is taking place all around us.  Me, I'd help him drag it out, then I'd take him and his family in.  I don't have much, but there is no way in Hell I'll sit by and watch somebody starve.  Desparate people will do desparate things.

Years back my Brother In Law was working for GE in Hookset. He got buddied up with JC who swore up and down there was a good buck behind every bush in Hartland and Windsor Vermont.  We hunted 3 states back then so we pulled the camper out of Ryegate and droped down into Hartland.

The first day we covered a lot of ground and saw a lot of sign. That night we ate chow, took a pull or two off the sour mash and hit the hay to get an early start the next morning.

Somewhere shortly after midnight I came flying out of my sleeping bag when I heard automatic weapon fire. I was having flash backs to Nam it was so bad. About 10 minutes later I heard the unmistakable beat of helicopter rotors and the whole damn place lit up with search lights from the choppers, all not more than half a click away. :wtf:

It seems there was a poaching operation that VT F&G had been watching and they nailed those bastards square. They had a 40 ft loyboy loaded down with deer when the fish cops caught up with them. Now those lizards I'd have sold out in a New York minute, and that's only if I didn't get killed trying to stop them.
