Ziggy,
Nice sled! Does it have room inside for your bait or do you carry a bucket seperate? I hope to add some ice reports soon. Planning on going out somewhere the weekend after next.
yep the sled was a project when i was an apprentice about 15 years ago. Bait is gold and i have had to many spills to keep it on the sled so i carry it no bait makes for long day . they said 4-6" of Ice on pond we spoke about and is where i am headed this weekend . good luck look forward to your reports.
Nice little rig you got there . I love to go ice fishing . Back in my military days I would go almost very weekend. When the ice was around 8 inches I had a sled I would drag and a back pack the type that Stephen makes . When the ice would get up to 36 inches I would drive the truck . I remember in my crazy younger days I would sit on the ice in temps down to the teens and windchill well below zero. As I got older and wiser I built a nice shed with a propane heater in it. I have fished in that baby in minus 55 degree temps not counting wind chill. Wearing nothing but a tee. I had it so a panel the length of the shed would pop out . i could drill 5 nice holes to fish in. had another panel that would pop up where I would drill a hole about a foot down for them beverages. Had a fold up bench to sit 4 comfortable Had windows that I could open to check tip ups or close for full darkness so I could see deep down into the water. A small radio to listen to the game. Best part the old stove. I would cook up some chili and dogs . Spaghetti . Bacon and eggs . Deer Steak . The aroma's were so good coming out of that shed it would draw them wardens for miles. Seemed like they would always show up when food was ready. They must have known they could always get a hand out. I had no problem handing out the goods. Best to stay on their good side Then when the Rainbow Smelt were on . We would fish for them onto the wee hours to fill a bucket or fry em up. Nothing like cleaning them and tossing them in the skillet. You got my juices flowing Zig . I thinks it's time to break out the old ice fishing gear. Fly fish the morning Ice fish the afternoon. Nothing better.
Dave sounds very similar to me LOl i use to sit out in all conditions and most of the time due to conditions i wold have many bodies of water to myself......
When my kids were a bit smaller i bought a already built Ice house and fixed it up was really nice had table, curtains , 2 bench seats with a portable heater. the benches converted into a bed , the kids and i would stay out in it over night during the derby was alot of fun for a little amount of Money.... well after few years i had to upgrade and built a new house the one i have now .. here are some pics.
It is on the cover of our local TV stations coffee table book that they made with everyones pics they posted to there site , It was cool to see ....... The 1 st 2 pics are from year i built it i painted it and added wood stove last season
This last pic is the one on channel 9's picture book
I have been trying to sell this , have many come look but no takers ? so now i am just gonna put it out on local lake and use it to catch some fish i gotta get out in the woods and get some downfalls for wood the stove, i built all of it myself , little help from my son and friends
woodstove rocks keeps the house in mid 60's to high 70's if you want
Cool looking shak there Ziggy. Don't think you will be cold unless you don't get wood for the stove. How are the ice conditions now on your local waters, not much ice here where i live.

i got my sled all set and just need to get auger fired up and make sure its running well. 3hp motors can be trouble if not treated correctly .... It sure beats drilling by hand been there done that 1000's of times
Let the Ice fishing reporst start next time i post hope to have some cold fish in the picture along with me
