Well this morning decided its nice out i would set up the bait trap and give it a whirl, its not the place i had in mind but this will be a test to see if it works. the next set will be a small swamp with little brook outlet thinking i may get some nice golden's in there lookin for 8 " baits or so may have to adjust the hole after i look up regs for sizes and stuff, well follow me threw as i set up my bait trap ? never really done much of it have tried but never really tried Smile

i put a rock in mine when its near current just incase it rises high it hopefully won't get swept away along with tying it to a tree.

Took potatoe bag and cut plastic mesh out of it.

added some secret bait for the bait.

Got this next idea from Dealiest catch LOL Wink

threw in some other spcial bait for bait

stopped and took this pic on the way up to set it just felt right???

the set this was the most stragetic thisng i did all day heave it towards the water out to about 3 feet deep Smile

tie it off to tree and put ducttape lable with my name and address which is required by the regs

Will go back in couple of days to report on how i did and hopefully have some bait ? Smile prob just throw them back havnt set up bait house yet in the porch area but thats next Smile

I've been using 200lb mono instead of rope so it's camoflaged. Unless you know it's there nobody will find it. I like the idea of putting the bait in a mesh bag. I've been just throwing it loose in the trap.

I just use plain mono not camo (but camo line is good idea). I ment the line is camoflagued and not so obvious for someone to stumble on. I've been putting out 6 traps in different spots. I keep them out for 24 hours.

carva quick question or two if you don't mind. do you suspend your traps when on the ice? if otherwise what do you look for as far as depth, location ,weedlines etc... any help would be cool wanna try to catch some bait . save a few bucks and is something i will enjoy doing. Like i said before the next stop is small swampy arear with little open water small brook running threw it kinda small beaver pond not very big prob few feet deep in most areas.

Sorry Zig I didn't see your question till now.

I've been putting them on the bottom. Now that there is a some ice down here I'm going to suspend a couple and see how it goes this weekend. You won't get the tadpoles with a suspended trap. I'll post some pics if I get anything.
