An impressive one for sure. Our Merrimack River once ran red with salmon. So many hope that one day it will again. I can't see anyone who fly fishes not liking it. The Spey casting on what looked to be a Deer Creek rod was a nice touch as well.

Awesome viedo thanks for sharing .
Great video Dave, I did an edit of it so it now opens full screen. I also moved to Atlantic Salmon Forum.
I think this may be my next Hope Page Video.

I love the video!! It is magnificently filmed and the salmon was beautiful!
I hope to someday see an atlantic salmon. I have never seen one that I am aware of.
I have an acquaintance at the hospital where I work that fishes for salmon with Spey Rod up in Quebec every year with a friend of his. His bud caught a 40lbs salmon this spring up there. WOW! What a fish.
I certainly hope that Atlantic Salmon survive and re-established in NH. Aren't they pretty well established in ME?

Dave,
You asked and here it is. Nice marketing video.
The outfitters will sell the very last Atlantic salmon on the planet.
I fished them 1 -3 weeks a year from the time I was 30 years old until I was about 55 years old and I am good at it and my flies are sought by excellent salmon anglers that know me. I tie salmon flies for only two anglers now as they are old friends but that is it.
I can't stomach seeing them fished anylonger.
It is OK for me to say these things I guess as I did it but the others want to enjoy what I and others have enjoyed. Who can blame them?
A customer once told me; "Bob, you salmon guys will do anything to help Atlantic salmon except take your F---ing hook out of the water!"
I haven't been able to go back since he said it because it is true.
Nicely filmed but you will never see me with a Spay Rod in my hands! There is little you can do with them other than what this kid did chuck it and let it swing; not skilled angling in my book at all. His fishing is a poor representation of Atlantic salmon angling.
It is a beautiful river and at one time I wanted to fish it and a few other European salmon rivers but now I like my little rod and wild brook trout far more. Strange really as that is how I began fly fishing! If I need a big pull I head out to Lake Ontario tributaries and get it out of my system and settle back into my small stream fishing as well as our local rivers.
Tight Lines!

Well Bobby,
You make me feel a bit guilty for wanting to catch one at this point. I think I'm going to have to visit somewhere else to get my oppurtunity. I would like to catch a nice one just once and get a good photo for the wall. But as you said we are all about restoration until it comes time to pull the lines.

I feel bad I made that post but was from the heart. Tell you what, the day you wish to actually go contact me and I'll make sure you have some flies that will work and tips to help ensure you get that fish picture for the wall.
Salmon fishing is a strange thing not simply the fish but the human atmosphere and certain locations are uncomfortable for me. I would not send you in those places but there are areas where things are friendly and not totally geared to take your money. Salmon fishing is very much about money and a good week on affordable water is likely to be at best a 6 fish week. Even on excellent water that can be good!
A friend I tied flies for this past week reported: "Hi Bob, did you have your knee done yet? how is it? How long before you can get around again? Your Bomber was the star of my show...and what a show it was-40 released(including several 15 pound plus hens)...I'll tell you all about it next time we talk...best, P" This fellow is an excellent salmon angler and I bet was top rod on the river for his trip. He generally is one trip he and I went on was a bit funny as every time we sat down to dinner and gave our report of the day we ruffled the feathers on excellent local angers who were not as lucky. I ended up selling them cheap some of the very best teal I have ever seen simply to keep the peace! That trip was my last and I landed a 31" cock fish on a #16 dry fly. Good place to end it I figured.
Do it Theron but remember the fish is slipping away.
If you can get to the best water well.....fine but most of us simply can't and the public water I can afford doesn't need another angler beating up on the few fish returning as there are plenty of Canadians fishing them and they are GOOD ANGLERS and excellent fly tiers! I first learned to tie salmon flies from some of the old boys on the Medway River in Greenfield. Top notch tiers of fishing flies not framing flies and there is a big difference!
Tight lines!
Bobby
Bobby,
I certainly don't want you to feel bad. It is not your fault that Salmon numbers are slipping away and out of our grasps.
I am curious however... Why do Canadians fish here for salmon? I thought Quebec was loaded with beautiful Salmon. A friend I work with goes with a close buddy every year up there. Or are they slipping away there too?
I guess I'm asking in your opinion are they doomed to extinction? My father in law said the sockeye on the west coast aren't doing well either. But I really know very little about that.
On another note....
I have no idea when you might get back to this post as I too experienced the Vermonters' Irene, and I saw your neck of the woods on the news Monday Morning. I hope all is well, and I have been concerned about you and the location you reside in.
I'd love to hear from you when you can make that happen.
Your Concerned Friend,
Theron

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.
