Dave where i fish I use mostly floating line, but that doesnt stop me from sinking tip lines when I need to get to that lower water colum. especially when swinging soft hackles....
Do you use them in lakes or deep pools in streams ?
Dave I find myself on rivers mostly, but in the spring you can find me wading the shallows of some of lakes after ice out or probing river mouths...... when I do that Im using either a floating line or an intermediate with streamers attached...........
When im on rivers I swing alot of flies to imitate caddis just under surface so my preferred line for that is a floating line......
How do you cast a sinking tip leader isnt it difficult ?
no i stay away from sinking leaders as they seem to add a hinge effect to my cast and I cant stand that...
I see , so do use mosly sinking putty ( Zinc or lead if you can use it )
no not really as I said i mostly swing flies....... if I use weight my flies are body weighted... or if im nymphing and bouncing the bottom then Ill use my sinking tip and add weight by either the bead or eggs shelll type sinkers about 12 inches up the tippett. or my floating line with the same rig.
By swinging your flies do you mean just let them drag with the current
Dave I have always fished a Cortland 444 wf floating line. I don't know why I have never changed or tried anything else but hey if'n it works stick with it...LOL
