Squirrel Falls, 13 Aug, NB Crown Reserve.   What a treat to actually drive right to the Crown Reserve Cabin and not have to lug any gear in. Camp was a nice one with only a minor bear problem, when the windows all have bars on them and the door is solid hardwood three inches thick, well lets just say your safe and secure sleeping at night. Squirrel Falls is located on the North Branch of the Sevogle river which is a tributary of the Northwest Miramichi. Good numbers of grilse and salmon in most pools, walking was very rugged with a long staircase leading down to the river. Fished from Friday to Sunday, with the highlight being a 31 inch salmon landed on Sunday around noon, proving that persistence pays off as our timing ended at 2PM. Upper pools can be accessed by a six km four wheeler trip, lower pools being closer to the cabin were only about a 1 km bike trip then you walk in. Let me tell you that Squirrel falls pool is one heck of a hike down river and not for the faint of heart. Bear tracks at numerous locations along the river kept one focused and alert. Had one uninvited visitor in the afternoon when we were away. I had made the mistake of leaving a tin can with some bacon grease in it on the front deck. When we returned the coleman stove was flipped over and the grease can was crushed with bite marks in it. So I promptly accused my long time fishing buddy of pulling a little trick on us. You know he probably stepped on the can and used a hammer and nail to punch a few holes in it, then threw it on the ground. Any way after a couple hours of him professing his innocence I came to the conclusion that one hell of a big critter gave us a visit and we missed it. Sat outside till the wee hours of the morning both nights and put away a few too many. Had an excellent trip.

Hi Bill

I took the liberty to edit your post and make the photo's show in the post and used the lightbox option, so when you click on the photo you see it full size in a popup window.

Those are great pictures. really like the one of the fish in a pool (#4).  sure makes me want to get back up that way again.  Can I ask how big is that river?  From the one shot it looks like a small river.  Reminds me of fishing the mountain streams here in NH but the fish are bigger up there.

Great Post Bill.

Thanks

Lee

Wow awesome fish Bill,  Good size for what appears to be a small stream .  Nice photo's to.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.

The North Branch of the Sevogle is a small to medium sized river, shallow runs with fairly deep pools. River is very rocky with steep sides and a good riparian strip.  I tried to put some pics that showed the size of the river Lee. And ofcourse I couldn't resist putting a picture of my fishing buddy Laurie with his knife out ready to jump into a pool and attack something. He's always messing around, you know kissing fish etc.

Some go to church and think about fishing, others go fishing and think about God.
