HI All

I fished yesterday in the White Mountains, fished the Sawyer and Rocky Branch Rivers for wild Brook Trout.  I was supposed to meet Parker James but something came up and he could not make it.  So off I went alone.  Fished the Sawyer River first and I want to tell you that little river is still cold.  I managed lots of small wild fish but nothing to big.  Then near the end of my visit to the Sawyer I had a large (9 to 10 inch) wild fish come clean out of water to take the fly and he missed.  Fished over him several more times then he took and broke me off.  Was a very nice fish.  Next I went down the road apiece and fished Rocky Branch.  This river was much warmer but not to warm and I did manage a lot of fish in this river, some up to 7 or 8 inches in size.  I could not find my thermometer, but if I had to guess the Sawyer was 55 degrees and the Rocky Branch was 62 to 67 degrees.

All in all a good day out and I did not see another fisherman on any of the water I was fishing.

Sorry no pictures.

Thanks

Lee

I'm glad you had fun, Lee. Those mountain streams hold the gems and that is for sure.

I had driven north to fish the two days prior to the 4th, and the better part of valor was to spend the next with the wife.

This fella Jimmy that comes up from Jersey to see his in-laws had it in his mind to fish the Pemi up toward Woodstock, so I went up on Friday to first fish the Newfound and then to recon a couple spots on the Pemi.

The Newfound treated me well with 5 rainbows and a salmon in an hour or so of fishing and then I headed further north to look around.

I found a spot that I thought Jimmy might like and then headed on home.

The next morning Jimmy had arrived as planned and we hit the road at 5:30 am. I suggested that we first stop at the Newfound and sure enough we both did well and then headed north.

This particular spot on the Pemi gave up a bunch of nice brookies between 8" and 12".

The water was 64 degrees in that spot--much to our surprise.

John

Thanks for the responce.  I had to edit your post and resize the photo's, in their raw state they are to big and hard to see.  I used a size of 600x450 and they look much better.  A better choice to show a few photo's on a forum post is to use the attachment method to display photo's and then if you click on the photo you will see the photo in a bigger size.  Go to HELP to see this done.

Thanks

Lee
