Hi All

Got out fishing yesterday and had a real nice day.  I started at Hatch Pond about 7:15 am and it was somewhat cold, but not cold enough to not fish.  There was mist over the pond and only two others there in a boat.  I walked down the west shore to the area I like to fish and started fishing a very small red fly.  I did nothing with this fly so I changed to a soft hackle that I think is great here in this pond.  A Conservation Officer had passed

me when I was getting into my boots and came down to the pond later.  Very nice young man and tribute to the CO service in NH.  Things were slow until around 8:30am when the sun was a little higher in the sky.  Now fish started to rise but were just a little out of reach but I did manage a couple of fish.  I then moved around the end

of the pond to the other shore and started to get a lot of fish.  Must have gotten at least 12 or more.  Then the rising stopped so it was time to move to the South River.

I drove down the road toward home and stopped at the South River.

The black flies were just awful here and made for some difficult times.  I fished a short section of river above a water fall and did nothing.  I then moved down below the falls and started to incounter fish.  They are all stocked but to look at some of these fish you would think they are wild, but the fins give then away.

There was one pool that just had a bunch of fish in it and I just had a ball catching them on a green woolybugger.  Before the day was over I had cought at least 15 to 18 fish.  Once these fish get spread out the fishing should be very good here later in the spring.

The one think that bothered me was the fact that there was a great hatch going on but no fish rising.  Hope this changes when I fish this river again.

Link to the South River Album with more pictures.

Thanks

Lee

Great story Lee good to see that your out on the water again. Here's to many more great days of fishing.

Dave

Can you believe how nice those fish look, and they came from a hatchery, they look almost like wild fish but the fins are all beat up so they are hatchery fish, but NICE.  Thumbup

Thanks

Lee

Outstanding Lee, looks like you had a really good day.  I won't be out fishing until 01 May, this Saturday on Big Oromocto lake. I'm not expecting much as the ice has been off for at least 3 weeks or more so I'm fearing that the best ice out fishing will be done, but thats not stopping me. I'll be fishing somewhere on both 01 and 02 May.
