I caught my first trout of the season on Monday. Fished up in the North Conway/Jackson area on Monday. The river are still high and even though they have been stocked nothing happening in the Ellis or the Wildcat (its early to be fishing the Wildcat). So I decided to try a few ponds. I fished Falls pond off the Kank at Rocky Gorge and managed my first trout of the year, a nice 9 inch brookie. Got him on a small soft hackle. Also missed one other fish so all was good. The wind was a problem and I think added to the slow fishing. Next I traveled to Hatch pond off of 153 in Eaton. Again the wind was a problem but I did get one more fish about the same size as at Falls pond. I did see some fish rising but only about four or five rises then nothing. I fished in the afternoon and I am sure it would have been better if I could have waited until about 7 pm, I think the wind layed down then and I am sure the fish were rising after that.
