Where did you go? How were the crowds? I'm counting the days till I go out on the 19th for 3 days. I'm going to spend the money and go to the DSR for the first time this year on one of the days. Hoping to hook into some fresh chrome. We'll probably hit the upper and lower fly zones the rest of the time. Steelheading is addicting.

Paul, I fished the lower fly and worked my way down to the "Wire Hole". The crowds in the upper fly were just unreal. We were out of the car getting ready when two cars made u-turns and five mutts jumped out and ran down the trail to beat us to the water so we finished rigging and moved down river where I hooked and landed two fish. You should find less and less people as the season moves along. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sounds pretty typical of what goes on up there, but I've grown used to it. Once you hook your first fish for the trip it all goes away 
. Last year we rigged up and put on our gear in the room ahead of time so when we got stream side we were ready to go. I like to take my time when I fish because after all it's supposed to be fun not a marathon. Unfortunately you gotta hustle up there. Avoiding the crowds and the rif raff or mutts ( I like that one) is the reason why we're going to the DSR this year. My buddy's been there many times and says it's a much nicer experience. The $30 for a day pass keeps mutts away.

Just got back from three days of steelhead fishing on the Salmon River in NY. Sorry Lee no real stories to tell, five and a half hour drive at four am, got my license at a whopping seventy dollars for the season. Day one consisted of one lost fish and a hen nice and bright around six pounds landed on a spey. Day two I landed a hen around ten pounds and a beauty of a buck around twelve pounds all on speys. My buddy was with me and snapped a photo. Day three for me was one lost fish that I had on for around thirty seconds, but what a thrill. I have added the pic below, and will put some others in my album.
