I have not done so but sure would like to try once. Not sure that is the way to go with the modern rods and materials.
Just my two cents.

Years and years ago with a little trout rod my grandfather had but I don't remember much about it.
I've always wanted one but from what I have seen they are so exspensive. I would love to try one .
Dave,
I have an 8 foot montague that was given to me by my father. Built in the 1930's. Can't stand casting it. It's too heavy. The action is OK but the weight is a killer.
You can find rods that cast like a bamboo rod.
Find a slow action rod and overline the rod by another line weight. This will give you pretty close to a bamboo rod's action.
My company builds a "Winding Brook" series which is a small stream rod with slow actions to quickly load the line. Many of our clients say it's like fishing a bamboo rod.
Now, the Montague I mentioned above was by no means a world class bamboo rod and somebody who wants to fork out $1,800.00- $3,000.00 for a world class bamboo rod may have a slightly different opinion
Dave
I know can you belive 3000.00 for bamboo. I bet our grandfathers would have never guessed they would be worth that much in the future. On the same line I bet they didnt think cars and trucks would get to 50 plus thousand either
The car thing kills me too, the first house I bought was 59K. And that was only 12 years ago!!
I know my neighbor bought his house in 1960 for 29 thousand , my house right next to his just like his I bought in 2000 for 125 thousand
I have a couple and make the time each year to fish them.. it seems weird but I like fast action rods, but feel the switch to a slower rod from time to time really makes my cast over the course of the year very fluid.
I have an old Fenwick Glass rod, 7.6 for 6 wt that most people think casts more like a bamboo then any other type of rod. It is slow action and after you get used to it it is very nice to fish.

Have any of you ever fly fished with a bamboo rod ?
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.
