I just got back from the Adams Pool Crown Reserve on the Lower North Branch of the Little Southwest Miramichi. The cabin as always was rustic and the welcoming party had a good turn out (mice, bats etc) Water was on the high side for this time of year, but not unfishable. As a result the salmon were scattered throughout the stretch and not really concentrated in any one pool. Spoke to the outgoing fishermen and they had caught some grilse, they told us that they had the stretch on 01 Aug and couldn't even get near the river as it was terribly swollen because of all the rain. The ground is still very saturated with alot of mud on the foot paths and small rivelets of water coming out of the hillside running into the river. So it looks like the river will have good water levels throughtout the rest of the season. This was a prime example of how important a riparian buffer strip of trees and natural vegetation is in the maintenance of water levels. We caught two grilse and my nephew had two different salmon on but both got off. When the water is high the fish hold where they please and I had to put aside five years of knowledge about that stretch and relearn the high water locations where the fish like to hold. As a result the fishing's a little tougher. Had a great trip though.

Good to hear from you Bill . I guess water has been high all over the North East . Should be good fall fishing for you guy's. Thanks for the report, Dave V

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.

Nice report Bill, got any pictures to share. How far up the Little Southwest Miramichi is the area, what map number of your old maps has that stretch of river on it. Would love to know where it is.

Thanks again for the report, good to hear the fishing is good in Canada.

Hi Lee

The Adams Pool is on Plan 6 of the Little Southwest Miramichi Map and is marked on there as are the other pools. That map series is the worst quality one that we have. Man that stretch is a rugged one, no wonder it's easier to get drawn there as it is a ton of work just bringing in your gear. Never mind hiking the river bewteen pools.
