I managed to sneak away for a Saturday of fishing. Most of the last few weeks have been taken up with getting the cabin ready for the summer and school ending, advancement cerimonies awards etc. Lanuched in Fredericton Northside green. Fished our way up river eventually trying a mid river hump near the Sheridan Hotel that came up to only 4 ft of water. Hooked into a 3 foot muskie on my spinning rod. What a rush with 3 feet of snapping muskie coming to boatside and in the process slashing a gaping hole in my net. Hooks came out surprisingly easy and got a few pics for proof. You know I like to email them to the people that I asked to go, but who were too busy. Anyway that was the main action, lots of fosh jumping periodically really not sure what they were looked fairly long and thin like a pickeral but had a black back and white belly. Anyway I've uploaded them to my photo album. We'll be heading out to the lake in Harvey so I should be able to post some repoirts of what is biting, if anything there. No lic is required to fish the Saint John river below the Bucket Club, not sure how this applies to nonresidents as it is considered tidal water. I was aways brought as a dyed in the wool trout fisherman but the muskie is held in the same esteem in Ontario as is the Salmon here in the east so I'm thinking that I'll give it a few more goes this year, oh ya the season runs through to Nov 30. Might be a blast and cast this fall.

Nice fish Bill. Did you try using the fly rod ? What a blast that would be on a fly rod. Totally awesome.

Flyrod is my next step as casting those big baits all day is enough to cripple anyone. I'm planning to try some trolling with some big and I mean big fly's that I'm working on. The chatter on Muskies NB is that the flood has washed / encouraged more muskies to move down river from woodstock to the Fton area, fard to say if there's any merit to it. But there is a distinct possibility that the next NB record will come from Fredericton this season, especially as more anglers take up the pursuit.
