Well...I supose having a guide to do your hunting and fishing is a good way to make money. I guess what I ment is if I went to a friends house in NS, NFLD, Quebec, etc, that I should be able to fish with my buddy withought hiring a guide. My friend would be guide enough...I appreciate the employment field of guides and in a lot of cases such as hunting unknown territory, fishing unknown territory, not knowing all the laws, and for safety concerns, a guide would be the best investment of the trip.
Just the way I see it, and the way my uncles seen it guiding the waters of the Miramichi...
Richard I agree totally.I held an NB Guide 1 license for years when I live there and guided Fishermen on the Miramichi system and hunters in the Neripis / Welsford area, now when I go to the Miramichi every summer I have to have a guide tag along with me just to keep it legal
For the inexperienced Hunter/fisher though a guide is a positive thing.

To my freinds north of the border or to someone who might know the anwser. Why do you need a guide to fish in Canada ? Why did this come about ? I don't think it should be a mandatory thing. I have to wonder why this came about.
Dave
As much as anything it gives people employment who need it. This is not a dig on my part, but some of the guides I have had need this work to survive. I think it is a good thing.

P.S. Boy this thread has taken a turn from its original intent. I may need to split the topic.
I understand the need for the employment but why make it mandatory ? Ihave no problem looking up a guide to help me find fish on the first day but if I want to fish alone with a freind I don't think I should have to pay a guide. Just my two cents. I don't mean to ruffle any feathers I'm just curious to as why it's madatory.
PS I think your right it has gone off subject. Might want to make this a post of it's own
I don't think I can split this topic anywhere logical so I will start a new thread about Manditory Guides in New Brunswick.

No missunderstanding Richard
just trying to figure this thing out and the only way you do that is to talk it out.
Being a licensed Guide (hunting) though I don't agree with you on that subject. I think non residents should be required to have one while fishing in NS! JMHO
