Quote by: Dave+VHey Jake how you catching them ? What fly may I ask ? Glad to hear you released the fish. They might be there when I get up there at the end of Aug

These fish were not caught on a fly rod. This time of year these big fish do not come to flys. They are looking for smelts so maybe a stremer fly in the right place would work. As to these type of fish being here in AUG when you come up it is not going to happen. These fish are deep in lakes where the cold water is, they only show in the spring and fall in the rivers. Summer months are tough for trout, I SM bass fish that time of year. If you were to trout fish in August, you would be right at home if what the other guys are saying is true about the minnows.
Chubs and juvies will be all you will catch at that time of year.
You wait , That does it. No more Mr nice guy. We will see who has the last laugh. The hatchey is just down the road ,
Jake are you saying you used bait to catch those fish ?

That's not what I said. All I will say is I used a spinning rod.
Jake did you use spinners or flies ? When I was up there I used a few spinners or spoons for the early fishing. Especially in the high waters. Worked awesome . Then back to the fly rod once the water levels dropped and began to warm up.
I can't say what I used on a public site. It is something I use and not many people know about for trout and salmon. I will say it was not a typical trout lure, these lures are typicly bass lures. They work realy well during the early season when the smelts run. That's all I can tell you . The youngster that fished with me did use a worm and spinner and caught one salmon, that tecnique does work well this time of year. The set up I use works extreamly well and like I said not many people know what it is. I would like to keep it that way.
