Hi Lee, I've been reading the online fishing regs for your state. For the Maine FFO waters it states that you must flyfish and the defination as I understand it according to the Maine Regs is that the weight of the line pulls the line and fly out, rather than the weight of the lure/fly. Where as in NB fly fishing you must use a fly to which no extra weight or spinning device is attached, doesn't mention any rod or line type. So in my mind you could use a spinning rod in NB on the miramichi as long as you only have an unweighted fly tied to the end, I know that it wouldn't cast very well. Anyway I'm reading some posts on FFIM and there're talking about using bead head nymphs and cone head wolly buggers on GLS. So what's the scoop about using added weight on Maine FFO waters???

Hi Bill

Here is another one for you. In Maine FFO still water (Lakes and Ponds) you can only cast and retrieve the fly, you can not troll the fly in FFO still waters. At one time you could not add weight to the line in FFO waters, but now you can, so a split shot on the leader when nymph fishing is legal in Maine. As far as bead head flies and cone head flies they are now legal in FFO water. Trolling is still not legal in FFO water.

Hope this helps. If I get time I will look at the regs and find what they say and try to explain in layman terms for you.

Yup sounds as confusing as catch and release sections with fly fishing only along the way. Or what constitutes live bait Do night crawlers count as live bait. Some states say yes and some say no. Bill you will find some Maine laws unique. Lee I am glad they finally cleared the waited fly issue. Never quite understood that one. I rememeber being up the tying nymphs and wasnt sure if I could add lead to the fly or use a sinking line.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.
