 I have yet to encounter a dark native rainbow in our state.  Most of the time the natives are VERY striking in their appearance, they stand out quite well from their concrete reared brothers and sisters.

These are not my pictures but they are all from NH waters

most I have encountered where as you describe far and few between in NH . but they are around , I caught many 4-8" rainbows up north and asked , they do not stock fish that small in the area I was fishing , they were dark in color . may depend on water being caught . thanks for pics nice fish
