This weekend my brother decided to come south from maine to hang out with the family and get at least get one early morning run in catching some natives while rock hoping around in the whites.  Our day started early, up by 4:30 and out the door before 5 and on location by 6.  We had half a day to play around so had to make the best of it.

I assured him we wouldn't need waders because it was going to be hot and the water would be kinda warm....  Except it was freaking cold, sub 60 when we got there and cloudy.  The first time I hit an unexpected deep hole and got the boys wet I kinda regretted not bringing waders just a bit Smile

My brother only fly fishes once or twice a year so he was a bit rusty.  After a little bit of casting instruction we were well on our way.  Wasn't long before he got his first decent sized native.

The fish are still very active and almost 90% were caught on the surface using EHC and a PT nymph trailing behind.  Most were between 4-7 inches with a few bigger ones mixed in.  Most were quite chunky like this fellow.

We fished upstream first for a bit and then walked downstream and fished back up to where we started.  Most of the deep pools held numerous fish.

It seemed like we had just gotten started when I checked the time and saw it was already noon and time to pack it in and head home.  The fishing is still great and the water levels and temps are still quite good.....till next time!

A friend and I hit the Beebe River, Smarts brook and the western branch of the Mad river this past Sunday and had a great time!  The spot we chose on the Beebe for some reason was not fruitful, but Smart's brook and the western brance supplied us with a fun filled day of wild brookie fishing.

It reminded me an awful lot of fishing the Ellis and the wild cat with Lee.  Just a great time on a great little river.

Sorry no pics.  I am with out a camera these days.

Awesome T_Bone!  I'm glad you got a chance to get out there and have a good time before it warms up too much.
