I found "how to" on the net about buidling your own bamboo rod and man o man did that look like a whole lot of work.  I'd be too scared to even fish with it with the places I go after puting that much love into it, good luck!   Where abouts in Maine are you headed to?

Howdy Hornberg . The hard part will be already done for me. I just have to add the guides ferrules , handle and reel seat. Baby steps for me.

I will be heading to Winslow Maine . My old stomping grounds. I will be heading to NH to see my Brother and his family.  Then I plan on meeting up with Lee and all who want to meet up for some Mt Stream fishing . I want to take my wife Stephanie to the beach for a day head up north to Caribou to show her what's left to Loring AFB .Hoping to make the jump North of the border to catch up with Stephen. Of course that all depends on family and how much they miss me. Then I want to take the Mrs camping for a couple days in the North Woods . Then back down to the Winslow area for some Mom Dad family time. While there put down a few LOBSTERS .

That would be about my first build also.  What taper are you going to use?  I've found packing the two piece 7 -7.5' rod to not be too much trouble on the trail.  More of an issue on the plane.  I tried carrying the two piece Battenkill on the plane to Yellowstone and they wanted me to check it.  I ended up doing an OJ run without later murder through the airport back to the car.  Luckily had packed a pack rod in the checked bag.

Way to go Dave, welcome to the madness.

I just did my first dip of my bamboo rod today.  I made a dip tube out of 1.25" PVC and used a 5gal bucket packed with sand to hold it.  I made a curing booth out of some plastic sheet stapled to the workshop ceiling, work slick.  I am in the process of finishing the feet on the guides and hope to start wrapping this week.

I went with a 7'6" (2) 4wt in a Payne taper and I can't wait to get this thing on the water.

So where did you get your blank?

That's where I got my blank.  Be prepared to work out some twists and warps, I set back a tip that was very badly twisted and would have most likely separated.  The replacement was not twisted but had a good six inch warp.  I called him on it and he was a bit of an insulting ass.  I was able to get the warp out just fine, it just took some time and patience.

This guy has some very nice blanks but he is currently out of stock, you could give him a call and I'm sure he is either expecting more or has some in the back.
