Keep us informed . Interested in the new line and how it cast. What does it retail for ?
I love my Wulff TT. I may get some of the new TT ambush line for the 4wt I'm building now.
Yes that Rio was overloading your rod. Look up the line standards set by the industry and you will find that Rio lines run one to one and a half wt heavier than the standard. My Rio 1wt line is close to a 2wt, which is fine because my 1wt blank tests out to a 1.5wt. I have been trying to get Wulff to make a 1wt, so far no luck; great customer service though.
I think the line was priced at $65 at the KTP plus tax. Cheapest I saw online was $60. I was impressed with the message from Wulff.
Cast the line on the snow this morning. Much better than the 5 weight line. It seems a bit lighter casting than their old 4/5 weight, which it is I guess, but it feels much better than the Rio at my normal shorter casting distances. It will also shoot farther than the double taper 5 weight line I had picked up. Tried the 5 weight DT and the 4 weigth TT on the old Battenkill (6 WT on the case) as well. The 5 loads the rod a bit better, but the 4 TT will work as well. The old 4/5 TT used to cast really well on it. I may just have to follow KTBone and build myself a 4 WT bamboo to go with the line.
Heading to the Cape next weekend for Easter at the in-laws. Should get a chance to test them out on the water then. I was reading the other day and came across this site: www.searunbrookie.org/. I recalled T-Bone asking about searun trout a while back. Looks like a couple streams on the Cape that would be fun to try some time. Anyone ever tried there?
Picked up a new Triangle Taper today at the KTP. All lines 20% off. Had a gift card left that covered it. I wrote to Wulff about replacing my old 4/5 weight line with their new 4 or 5 weight. Got a great response back that described all the sizes of the new lines verses the old. The new 4 weight is closer to the old 4/5 so I went with that. Think the 5 weight Rio line was overloading the old rod. Hope to try it out this weekend. Got my old Hardy rewelded and a new handle put on and the spool unbent by a guy out in BC. It's not like new, but usable again. Think I'll spool the line on it and give it a go this weekend, in the yard anyway. Looking forward to getting fishing soon!
