T-bone the flies really look good to me.  I agree with Koda and ktbones comments from the other day about buggy flies working well and then fishing them with confidence.  I used to tie more of a variety, but now with a kid and limited time to tie and fish I find I concentrate on a few patterns that I know how to tie and that I've had success with. You guys and my boy are getting me more excited about it all though and I've been tying more the past couple weeks than I have in a long time.

Thanks for the info on the storage boxes.  The latch on that box was broken already so I had been thinking about something new anyway.  I don't think that drawer system would fly with my wife.  I need to be able to put it all away from time to time.  It was an old sewing box which I can't seem to find now.  I liked the trays that had spots for spools and compartments to hold tools, markers etc. Was eying a really simpor tackle box at the KTP a couple weeks ago that was pretty similar to the sewing box.  Was also thinking maybe a couple flat compartment boxes for the thread and tools and then a plain Rubbermaid type box that they go in with the material.

Jack was fine by the way.  He was putting on his snow boots and lost his balance and sat on it I think.   Thanks for asking. Kids are funny.  The sewing box was my "fur and hair" box. My old suitcase with the feathers was on top of it.  Somehow he managed to smash the one underneath with no damage to the one on top!

Beware of the dude with but one rifle, one shotgun, one fly rod, and a few flies. Chances are, he knows how to use em all very well.Big Grin

A long time ago I knew I had to much stuff when I was getting ready to go hunt and stood like an idiot in front of the gun cabinets for half an hour trying to decide which gun would be best to take on that day. It got weeded out some serious. Mr. Green

Koda,

I have to laugh at that one....many years ago I was in a very similar situation and I settled on my Remmi 12g.  It was in that magical time of year where, back then, duck season and dear season overlapped by a week.  Well my morning of deer stalking was not panning out but I happend on a flock of quackers that were just begging to be made into confit.  So I unloaded my slugs, and reached in my pocket for the bird shot, reloaded and blam!, blam!, BLAM!.   Yup, I mixed up my shells, the last one out was a triple slug shell with an over charge load.   To boot the last shot was the best as the ducks broke in my direction; not much left of that poor quacker.Sad

T Bone . like the emergers . I guess I am an emerger kind of guy. I have a ton of confidence in them Guess that makes a big difference. I once read somewhere not sure where and who it was but this famous fly fisherman/Tier only used 5 flies all his life. I kind of agree with him. Tie up 5 or so of your favorite flies . The ones you have the most confidence in a that is the ones you bring with you .

Now that being said I like to try to tie new patterns because of the challenge and look cool.

Now for the storage bins. The wife bought me one of those 4 tier cheep Jobie's and put all my stuff in order while I was at work one day. I was lost for weeks trying to figure out the madness of being organized I figured she got tired of my stuff being all over the bench and on the floor. But dang it i knew where every thing i needed was. Woman just cant figure them out.

When fishing emergers, do you watch them like a dry or are you more like fishing a nymph?  I have never actually fished one that stayed afloat, so I wondered...  Do they typically float well enough to watch?

There is a day coming in my near future thatt he wife is going to clean house on me too.  ANd as ou said I will be lost for a while but I am hal the time now.  I keep buying materials I already have!  And figure it out when I am sortin thorugh looking for other things.

T-Bone I fishe my emergers just under the surface.  Most of my CDC emergers will float on top and I will catch a few that way. But the nost effective way is just under the surface from a foot down to a couple inches You can see the fly most of the time just skiming underneith . Seem like the fish will follow it and then chase it down

I had some great luck early in the spring with emergers.  I would let them sink to about the 5-6 foot level (in a lake) then slowly bring them to the surface.  I got about 90% of my hits within the last 12-6 inches.  If I just skimmed them at that level...nothing.

I think the fish were hanging at about the 6-10 foot mark and would see the emerger and follow it up.   Fun day, big bows and browns and I was the only one catching that day.
