 Hi Dave V.

Tying those without a body is in my mind a lazy way to put a hackle on a hook and call it a fly.

One just has to remember to leave a little more space for the extra hackle and head...

Happy Fishing and Tying

Stephen I have to agree with you on that one.  I almost always tie a smooth floss body with a flashbou tag.  I say almost because I wanted some very bright ones for fall brookies in Pittsburg and waited until the night before to tie them.  I tied them without a body and did not even bother with head cement.   Those things were like candy to the brookies even without the body.

I do find that using a bit of bourbon to smooth the hackle out helps as well.  Well it helps me anyway and the fish don't seem to mind.

I've been trying a couple of the heron flies today. Not sure I like the way the front hackle is going on. Would also like it a bit softer I think.  What do you guys use for the collar? Also how do you fish it?   Sinking line on the bottom?  Up near the surface?  Basically like I would fish a muddler? Thanks.  Looking forward to the new vise for Christmas. Woodstove is running, kid is reading, dog is about to catch fire and the radio is off and trying not to think anymore about CT.

Thumbup Looks like they will work well on the fish. Nice going . Wonder if I could tie one up on a size 32 hook ? Lol, No

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.

Go for Dave, how hard could it be?  Now can we find a size 32 in 3 or 4x long?

I will say I tied up some on a size 18 3xL and that was a bitch.
