I got together with a good friend today to fish the upper reaches of the Pemi.  I started the day in the float tube on Profile Lake at dawn.

It was very windy but fish were breaking, however they wanted nothing that I was throwing.  I did manage to hook up an a fingerling brookie but not much else.  I met  up with my buddy and we fished a section of the Pemin in Woodstock that I had previously scouted.

Now Shaun has never been big on fly fishing but I did manage to get him to give it a try.  Fortunately he was the first to hook up and he landed a nice wild brookie, about 7".  We spent the rest of the afternoon catching a variety of fish, wild brookies, stockie brookies, and quite a few salmon par.  Despite the low water and high temps all the fish seemed very healthy and were quite active and fought well.

Sorry no pictures I left the camera in the truck and I was not walking back up that damn hill more than once.

The real success of the day was that Shaun now wants to fly fish exclusively, I loaned him my old 5wt and gave him a handfull of flies and set him loose on the north country.  I also told him about this board and the cast of characters that hang about here, so we may have another new member

 Nice work Keith!

Another fly fisherman is created!  It would be great to have another contact in that region.  Its nice to be able to chat with people who can tell you about nice areas to fish, and even show them to you once in a while.

Shaun's dad was a CO in the northwoods and Shaun was a hut boy when he was in High School.  Now he is a teacher (summers off) and lives at the base of Mt Washington.   He spends a lot of time exploring the backwoods up there and has come accross some killer spots for wild brookies.  Not to mention he is just a fun guy to hang with.
