After thirty years of not fishing I decided to get back into it:  I started with some kayak fishing on a few of the smaller ponds in Acton, Shapleigh and Sprinvale, mostly fishing for bass but catching more than my share of pickerel.  I was able to pick up a used 16' bass boat this spring with the hopes of doing some trolling on Mousam and Square but just had a hard time getting out due to the lousy weather and my work schedule.  I ultimately would like to get into fly casting, but have my hands full right now with just getting used to the boat, the lakes and trying different techniques for different fish.  I'm trying not to spread myself too thin and keep it fun (and not too costly).  As summer progresses and the water continues to warm, I may try trolling using the only fly rod I have (#8) and some sinking line/ flasher/ live bait or fly.  I'll probably try the fly rod out on sections of Little Ossipee---it seems like such a great river to fly cast on as it is plenty wide and seems very wade-able.  We'll see.

Well you are in the right place to hang with Lee the almighty curator of this sight.  I'm sure he'd love to teach you to fly cast.

Welcome aboard!  Soon enough you'll have a fly rod and wonder why you bothered with all that other stuff for so long.  LOL.

Much like yourself I had taken an extended hiatus from fishing (mostly hard tackle).  Then I made the mistake of picking up a flyrod and I have not looked back since.  In fact I have now become obsessed with ultralight fly fishing (3wt or less).  There is nothing like catching a nice trout in fast moving water on a UL using a fly you tied.  In fact I think I'll head to the river now....see ya on the water.
