When I saw that bruiser coming up for the fly all I could think about was that damn plane you posted. Here goes my two weight....
Those things don't take American Express, or prisoners. My buddy in NJ calls em tackle wreckers. Course he's dickin around with 40 pound Kings on an 8 weight.
I emailed my compadre in NJ about the Salmon inhaling the tiny "Near Enough" and asked him about ramping up the size for Salmon.
His reply:
Tale of the Near Enough. This fly is as simple and as complex as anything else that has no reasonable explanation as to the whys and wherefores of it’s being. I have tied it as large as a size # 10 to try and represent the mythical Green Drake and the Slate Drakes of the Isonychia Bi Color of late summer early fall of the Catskill watershed. BUT anytime I vary from the size # 16 the production falls off dramatically. I should have some tied up in the large sizes and will send you some to try out. Maybe you will have better luck with them than I had. One of the most confounding frustrating things that just can drive you crazy trying to figure out, no logical explanation and just part of the mystery of this fly ( whatever it is supposed to be ). A size # 2 !? Anything is possible but my gut on that adventure would be that it would be a trick to get it to float. That is where the size and weight of the wire used on whatever hook you are using becomes critical. Try the flies out I will send first then maybe we can explore going off the deep end with a jumbo fly.
I replied that we may need to add a small air bladder under the dubbing to keep it on top
nice jonb Koda, was it a landlock or a broodstock?
I'm so F'n jealous!
Nate at Stone River told me he was having a hell of a time up there in Bristol this weekend. He said he went just to warm up his spey rod, and he get some practice in but the dam trout wouldn't stay off the line. LOL!
I think that is where I am headed with my brother.

I believe it was a brooder. One that stuck around this end rather than heading down to the dam in Franklin Thought I saw a T tag but not sure.

The bridge just below Ayer's dam?
That's the one. The dirt road that goes down through the Coolidge Woods.
Hit the Pemi this evening. Hooked into a nice smallmouth, a huge Fall fish, and last but not least, about a 2 foot Salmon! The thing hit just about at my feet. I saw it come up and did an aw shit! Guess what I was fishin with? Yepper, my 2 weight. The fight didn't last long on the 2 pound tippet and the #16 dry fly.
That's the neat thing with that river. Ya just never know what you're gonna sink a hook in. I shoulda toted the 7 weight but I just can't put down those danged UL fly rods.
Hey it coulda been worse, I had thought about takin the 1 weight
Definitely a fun trip.
