Now that I think back on it I had a chap from down Arkansas way when I was tourin the Sunny Country back in 67. Ole Ronnie didn't have the brains God give a chipmunk. How the Hell he ever got in the Army much less Nam was beyond me. He'd go out on perimeter detail and burn to a crisp. After peelin off 6 or 7 layers of skin a few days later he'd go out an do it again, get burned that is. I think he liked  peelin skin.  He was a redhead if that adds anything to the kettle Big Grin

Koda my mom thought baby oil was the way to make us tan up faster. Now days it's all about this SPF stuff.  Yup my dad was one of them army lads that would never call in sick a day in his life. So you know what got passed on down to me. Just how things were back then. That don't make us better . Just a bit crazy if you ask me.

Ditto on the Baby Oil.  Hell we played and worked in the sun all day long and nobody got burned when I was a kid. Course back then gas was 24.9 cents a gallon an a pack of Marlboros was less than a quarter.  We had a black & white TV which came on only after supper and when the cows had been milked and bedded down. I remember watchin Fess Parker as Daniel Boone. In one episode he was bein stalked by a bear.  Course it was TV so they played it up.  The eyes were glowin in back of the fire and I had nightmares for months after seein that.  Reckon I musta got over it as I romp with bears now Big Grin

It rained back then, normal rain shower and then the sun came out. There was none of this rain crap for a month at a time like it is now. We didn't have no elmino and elnino stuff. Winters it snowed, normal snow.  I find myself wonderin what the Hell we've done to this planet.

Bought my 1st car from Chicky Dean outa his junkyard for $15. A 1953 Ford, the fancy model with the killer radio and speakers. Had a flathead 6 cylinder with a 3 speed on the column. Tires were like new on it when I got it.  I took young ladies dancing with that car an went from here to Hell an back.  I run chains on it in the winter and went places that 4 wheel drives can't go today.

There was always work for the man that wanted it and the big dream back then was to grow up, have a house, and raise a family. You know, what used to be the American dream.  Well that all went to shit when political correctness and greed took root.

Oh we're advanced alright. We've walked on the moon, pissed on the bottom of the ocean, and just about ruined everything in between. I for one miss the old days. Things were simpler then.

Koda I am all for the good old day's  10 cent bottle of Pepsi and 5 ct candy bars 50 cent day at the movies. Rotary phone and a 2 or 3 channel tv if you had the rabbit ears just right, Worked on the farm haying for 2,50 an hour so you could take your date to the mighty spendy Mcdonald's. Burger fries soda change from your dollar , Remember that commercial well .  Then for a 75cent ice cream cone on your way home for the night. Life was sure simple as you say.
