Well yesterday was a great day.  Fish Carva, Ktbone, Zig and I got together for some grilling and a day on the Sugar River.

We met at about noon at Zig's place in Henniker, and grilled up some dogs, Italian sausages and venison.   We shot the bull for a bit and hit the road about 1pm headed for Newbury, NH's section of the Sugar along the old abandoned rail road bed.

The water looked beautiful when we arrived and Ktbone immediately identified a trout laying in a pool below the first old rail bridge.  We headed down the trail past the second bridge and found a nice bend in the river to start at with easily discernable pools.

Fish Carva, and Ktbone went a bit further down stream and fished while Zig and I attempted to work the bend.  After throwing wet flies, streamers, wooly buggers, stone fly nymphs and several other nymph varieties I only managed to hook the bottom a  few times.  But with in the first couple of minutes I heard some hooting upstream where I turned to find and see that Ktbone had hooked up as I watched him land that trout.  I thought great at least we landed a fish.  Sadly that was the only one of the day.

Zig and I moved up stream to some other lies that looked promising, but everyone seemed to notice despite some sporatic hatches going on through out the day there was no rising going on.  The trout seemed to be laying deep and wouldn't seem to rise to any offering including the real thing.

Ktbone was the fisherman of the day as it wrapped up around dark.  No fish, but there was plenty of reasons to stand or sit by the water and enjoy it.  The weather was great and the scenery was fantastic!  I had a great time and it was really nice to hang with the guys and wet some lines.

Good times fellas and I look forward to some more.  I hope to take you up on the striper fishing Fish Carva.  That is something I have always wanted to do, and have not had the opportunity to as of yet.

Definetly a great day.  Thank you Therion for organizing and Brandon for hosting.  It was great to just sit around and StheS for a bit before heading out, and it was nice to reconnect with someone from my past and stroll down memory lane a bit (all the way back to 3rd grade and that broken classroom window).

Getting the only fish of the day was a bonus, I'm still amazed I caught it.  I saw it rise right on the upper edge of the seam I was fishing and immediately tried to cast above to drift back down to that spot, but I short casted and must have nearly hit the fool thing in the head, he hooked up almost as soon as the line hit the water.

Here are a few shots that I took to get the ball rolling:

I do not believe there was a group shot taken.  Brandon has most of the pics to, so you'll have to wait and see them.

I had a fantastic time and hope we can give it go once again in the future. I think Keith and I are due for a date at the vice as well.  He has plenty to show me from what I saw while observing his fly box.  His ties are nice and clean.  The looked fantastic!

But I would also enjoy some more time on the river.

Thanks for adding the photo's Zig.  It's nice to see folks fishing together from the site. Just like a family photo album.

Keith

I edited your post and fixed up the pictures so they fit and don't go to wide for the site.  Next time use the Icon in the editor to insert the pictures.  Go here and to the section "External URL" to see how to do it.  It real easy and makes the forum post easier to read.  I recommend picture width of 600 pixels or less.

See Yah
Thanks
