I got connections in the Wally World Network and just got a first hand report that the fishing gear for 2012 is arriving. Get in there and grab those Eagle Claw Black Eagle 5 WT fly rods before the polecats get in and wipe em out.

You won't live long enough to find a sweeter casting rod and all for a whopping $20.  With a 5 weight line you'll cast further than with any 5 weight you ever had or have.  And I've dropped down to a 2 weight on mine and it casts that like a bullet too.

Bill Thompson from North Country Anglers & Bill Franke from One P Foot were down year before last and I put one in their hands with a 3 weight line. They were casting into a head wind and were blown away by the rod. When I told them it was a $20 rod I thought they were gonna roll a pair of 7's Surprised

The stripper guide is way oversized and if you like to shoot line you'll find you can easily lay a 5 weight out the length of the fly line. They have a real nice action that makes even a 10 inch Brookie feel like a respectable fish and an 18 inch rainbow feel like a Tarpon.

Grab one, it'll be the best $20 you ever spent, guaranteed Thumbup

BTW, these are carbon rods.

The only length I have ever seen them in is 8 1/2 footers (2) pc, and the only place I have ever seen them is at Walmart. At that, they seem to only stock a couple in each store. Wright & McGill ( which IS Eagle Claw ) also makes a Black Eagle carbon rod in a 6/7 weight but I was not nearly as impressed with that one.

I was so impressed with the 5 weight I tried to get the Wright & McGill line but could not find a contact to work with. At $20 retail there can't be a heck of a lot of markup but I figured I could sell a pile of them and even at a $2 profit I could make enough to buy a bag of dog food or two.

I'm not your usual merchant in that I promote products other than mine if I figure it's a great value for the dollar and can get somebody into fly fishing. Same for the Redington Classic Trout series which I think is one of the best fly rods ever produced.  I don't have that line either as I don't want to get in bed with Sage who owns Redington now.

It is my opinion that a man does not need to spend $750 to $900 for a mass produced carbon fly rod to engage in the sport, nor does he need to spend $2500 for a Weatherby rifle to shoot deer, though I have done that myself in the past on both accounts Surprised  If a chap has the means he should get whatever floats his stick and smile like Hell while he is using it.

My business was founded on keeping the working man with a family out on the waters fly fishing without robbing the siblings of an occasional ice cream cone to do it.  It has been successful because I am anal in selection of what I sell. For every one item I stock there are 20 that didn't meet my standards of quality and value. I look at everything through the eyes of an Engineer, and even though it may be functional right now, if I think it is poorly designed and won't last I won't sell it, no matter where it was made.

The inventory I have I own. There is no bank note to pay down each month and I don't have a store front to support though at one point before the economy went to the wolves I had thought about a brick & mortar store. Glad I didn't make that move.

What it all boils down to is I can offer fly fishing gear that is quality and affordable to the average guy and I don't have to mark it up to the sky to cover operating costs.  Most of my customers like it that way because they pay less and get more for their money.

My International sales often times beat domestic sales which is something I did not anticipate. The economy here in the US is not just here, it's global. I sell much to the UK, Norway,Denmark,Finland, Iceland,Italy,Germany, Russia, Canada, South America, and believe it or not, Africa.  What the Hell can they be fly fishing for in Africa I thought. There can't be much in the way of fish between steaming piles of elephant dung ?  WRONG!  They've sent me pictures of fish that I can't even pronounce the names of, and BIG fish too.

When we think of fly fishing here in the US it's usually trout, salmon, and sometimes pan fish, maybe some bass and pike. Other countries have their own species, some have trout, some not. But all fish eat "bugs" and it seems most eagerly wolf down flies with hooks in them no matter where they swim.  All good Big Grin

A lot of my time is spent sourcing stuff that I don't stock. I had a gent in Plymouth NH last year that tangled with a good Tarpon down in Florida on an Abel reel, which is IMO a damn good reel, and lost it when the drag went dead and he was free spooling. He lost the fish and was some upset. He called me and asked about a reel he could rely on, but he had a budget of $400 tops. A month later I sent him a reel that costs him $275,  Shortly after he went back to Florida, hooked up with a 150 pound Tarpon, and landed it with that reel. He's sold 27 more of those reels for me just from word of mouth, all in Florida.

That's why I say, if you don't see it in the on line store, ask.  If you have budget parameters give me a window to work in, usually I can come up with something to get the job done.

So though it's perhaps a bit late, this post can be called "Meet The Merchant" Big Grin  And all this time you thought I was just another pretty face posting on Lee's and raisin Hell.  Well yah, that too Thumbup
