Just got a flyer from Stockard and low and behold, they are offering a rotary vise for $19.98. The reviews are all good save one.

Check it out! Stockard

They have a sale going on with all the vises they carry.

It's a tough economy out there. I was thinking of Theron when I saw this vise. If $20 gets him a rotary to go the next phase we'll get sneak peeks of the fly progress.

Charlie showed me a trick with peacock herl that I modified to do on a rotary vise. It makes the herl body so tough a pike can't chew it off. If it were not for a rotary vise I'd need another hand to pull it off. Once the snow flies I'll do a U tube on the procedure. But we have to keep it between the family here.  If it gets out, they'll all be doing it and then the herl bodies will become yesterdays news.

I wonder, if I could do it with Bat fur Surprised

Never heard of peacock herl rope, no idea what it is. It's doubtful that what I'm doing is well known as for the most part I conjured it up over a long period of time by trail and error.  But no problem, it'll save me some work  since it's "old news", no sense in revisiting.

Howsomever, we have new fly tyers on the forum so please be so kind as to tell them about the herl rope. I'm interested as well Mr. Green

Neither one of those for me Dave. The first one will get you half way to Buffalo.  The 2nd one would seem stronger but where do you get one of those gizmo bobbins?

I use a shepards hook I made from a needle tool with a set of hackle pliers and I use a contact base.

there are other ways to make the rope, like a dubbing loop, but the basic idea is the same, you twist the herl with thread, mono, wire to reinforce it. Thanks Dave! what's "contact base"?

I don't know Sebastian. My guess Koda could be using some type of glue on the hook when he makes the peacock herl wrap . Then again I could be way off base.
