Great handle by the way. Rangeley is where I do most of my trout fishing. There are so many places to fish off the beaten path it would take you 5 summers to fish them all. Perhaps we can meet up this spring. Just curious what did you fly in the navy?

Welcome Woodsmoke ,Let me first start off by saying thank you for your service. I surely appreciate what sacrifice you have done for our country. Now for the site. One of the first things you will notice here . These guys are a great bunch of down to earth folks. Everyone of them is willing to share their knowledge . Some may be new to the sport while others have allot of years behind them . I won't mention any names 
Oh ya its safe to poke jabs at folks here when all done in fun. You said you wanted to partner up with folks .I know there are a few memebers that fish the Rangeley area I am sure they would love to hook up with ya . I would love to but I am a bit west of there now. Are you in to tying your own flies. ? Do you like taking photos.? If so i hope you post them for all of us to see. In answer to your questions I flew the EC-121 Super Connie 1968-1971 out of Rota, Spain then the EA-3B two engine jet off of most of the carriers in the Med. and then I ended up flying the the P-3's that were here in Brunswick. I feel strongly that we lost a great asset in NAS Brunswick and its a shame politics had to play into it. On the bright side I enjoyed my Navy career and don't regret all the things it did for me.
I am a beginner at fly tying but already catching fish on my own creations. Im told its just a matter of practice and keeping at it. Plenty of tying will take place this winter.
I probably won't be an everyday poster here as I love the outdoors. I icefish, hunt, hike, ski, snowshoe, kayak, garden, cut my own wood and generally look for any excuse to be outdoors. So if you don't hear from me all the time its just because Im out!
Heading up to the Springfield/Topsfield area to my buddies camp tomorrow for a week of birdhunting and a few days on Grand Lake Stream.
Guess I should learn to post some pixs.

You'll fit right in here! Welcome aboard. Like the handle. I heat with wood, nothing like it, though this year it's tough drying it out because Dave did some evil rain dance and got it to dump in the wrong place 
Seed busting is authorized and Lee often gets to be the target, just because, he's fun to spark up. All good people here and some crazier than others.

Hi everyone. Woodsmoke here. Flew for the Navy for 22 years, retired and went to work for them for 21 more. During all that traveling I attempted to get as much fishing in as I could. Now I finally see the opportunity to get out there when I want to. I have been a solitary fisherman because it was always hard to partner up on my schedule. Now that I have more time I know there are a lot of people out there I can learn from and share with. I have flyfished for about 25 years now and had the opportunity to fish Alaska, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Russia, and Canada (mostly thanks to the Navy). My favorite area is anywhere up around Rangley. I started fly tying last year with the Gray Ghost folks in Yarmouth. Catching a nice brookie or LL on your own fly is a kick! A few favorites in no order: brook trout, bourbon, a good rain jacket, a 9ft. 6wt, friends, a warm fire, temps in the 60's, and a wilderness river or pond.
I live in Bowdoin and am looking to partner up for some flyfishing in the future.
