Interesting Hybrid of flies Nic. A brassie on roids.. Looks like a fish catching bug. So when you added the heavier beads was it more effective ? I would think the glass beads keep the fly closer to the surface . More like an emerging nymph. I bet very effective Think I might tie a few of them puppies up for my box.
Dave,
Great point about the emerger! I hadn't thought of that at all, but you're right, it would stay nearer to the surface. I've tied these on scud hooks too, nailed some nice browns early this summer on them! I can't say my flies are 100% original, but I like to take a litlte from one that I llike and a little from another and create something new that way. Like I said, this one was basically a "lazy man" copper john...LOL. It works, maybe I'll have to tie up these for the swap, I haven't been able to make up my mind on what I wanted to tie yet.

Nic I am with you on the swap I keep thinking of something different then change my mind once again, I guess there is plenty of time . Heck it was 85 today and it is almost Oct. I to like to tinker with my own patterns or make a change to more common flies. Some times it pays off and some times it doesn't. Those flies might make it to the Bream box
Remember it's Peacock sword on the thorax. It's got that blue/green to it, much more so than the herl. I use that stuff in alot of patterns....but ssshhhh
don't tell anyone.

I won't your secret is mine Nic.
I like your secret. I think it would add a really nice bit of green flashiness to the flies. With Green sire and the flashabou, it would be wicked cool. I noticed as I was tying them the other day. My leg porportions were getting really long. But I see your flies legs would be considered long too, so I'm guessing they will still work.
I keep thinking maybe I want to do prince nymphs or copper johns instead of buzzers for the swap, but I do still have some time to figure that out.
Well, got to run meeting Lee in Alton soon.

Geez Nic, yer lettin the cat clean out of the bag! Anything peacock has a wonderful "bug" quality to it when it gets wet, turns a copperish color which drives trout and salmon wild.
It's lovely lettin it out here with the family, howsomever, we got lurkers here abouts and if word gets out on the street, well, stuff could happen, such as:
Sometimes the best intentions just go straight to the dogs
I'm with you Brother, don't tell anyone outside of here, they'll all be doing it
Since the recent thread from Theron with copper johns, here is my take on using wire in a nymph. I just started tying these this season, tried them in red and yellowish/green. Caught fish on both. This one is tied with hungarian partridge, but I've also had good luck with a black soft hackle collar as well. Thorax is tied with Peacock sword (not herl). This one has a glass bead, just because I've got them, need to use them for something. But I"ve also tied them with bead heads, and no bead at all. they all work and a simpler fly to tie than the copper john. I suppose if you wanted to hybrid a bit you could try biot for the tail and keep the rest the same as well.
Just wanted to share, and yes my wrap of the wire sucks down by the tail, but I suppose I'm allowed to tie one fly a year that doesn't look perfect
