What do you all use for hooks. What have you found in the best bang for the buck.  I'm no loaded, so I like to find hooks that are a good quality (fully sealed eyes, and won't break either in the vise or on worse yet with a fish on.  I've tried Mustad, Daiichi, Dai-Riki, Cabelas, and Orvis.  The best quality has been hands down Daiichi, but the price is a bit too much for me.  I still buy them on occasion, but mainly for my bass flies.  I was less than impressed with the Cabelas hooks, and the Mustads are alright, but not great.  All in all the best bang for the buck for me has been Dai-Riki.  I was skeptical at the price, but since I was ordering them from Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowston, I knew they couldn't be crap.  If I remember their hooks depending upon style are around $6-$7 per 50 pack.  If memory serves me correct thats probably around the price for 25 Daiichi's or Tiemco's.  I've really enjoyed the quality.  I've never seen them in any local shops however.

I'd love to hear others thoughts.

Nic I usally tie with Tiemco your right a little pricey. A lighter hook for tying my dries.   I use Mustad for my nymphs a bit heaver hook and sense I lose a ton of nymph's i like the fact I can get a 100 for 5 bucks or so. i have used Partridge  for some of my streamer flies a bit pricey but served their purpose  I have used Daiichi and your right they are a very good hook.  Of course there are some flies that require a specialty hook. Like the time I decided to tie some Carrie Stevens classic fly patterns.. I wanted to tie her flies as close to the original pattern as possible . I won't tell you how much I paid for the hand made hooks made now in England.   Now the Atlantic Salmon fly tiiers pay a crap load for their hooks. Except Stephen he got his hooks some 100 years ago in bulk . Actually if I remember right he got them from somebody before they went or business I think.  Nic the one thing I can say is the price of hooks went up in price right about the time the movie A River Runs Through It made fly fishing what it is today.  I say buy a hook you feel comfortable and see if a local fly shop will order them in bulk for you at bulk prices.  Them are my two cents . i have stricty used Mustad was told to do so by friemds that have been doing this a 100 years ... yes i am sure they use diffrent hooks for diffrent flies but for the monyey and the quailty i was told you cannot beat them? i have looked at others but have not purchased due to the price. i have not had any problems with breaking any hook? Vise or fish.

I may see diffrent reasons in the future to look at other hooks but for now i am a nymph guy and lose many flies a season as mentioned  prior so i have to consider that also . Not to mention very basic fly tier of now and can't see spending lots of extra money on hooks when i am not even confident my flies will work Smile
