Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.

Dave

First sorry to have hijacked your post and edit it, but please look at how you can make the link open in a new tab or window, in the HELP system.

For the idea of killing off the Pike I hope it passes and it works to some extent.  Bucket biology has to stop or our fishing will be non-existent in the future.

See Yah

Thanks

Lee

Interesting points of view on the subject. I kind of like the 5 dollar for pike turned in . With economy going the way it is . i think it wouldn't take long to clean out them suckers .  Pike have their place but not in Maine Trout  waters. We have the same problem here in South Dakota . We had a world class Trout lake here ( Sheridan lake ) We could catch some trophy Rainbow Trout not to long ago about 12 years in fact. But like Maine some yahoo thought that it would be a great idea to have Pike a little closer for him to catch them. Now the Pike are taking over the lake and now have made their way into the stream. Pactola Lake now has continued the same fate.  Won't be long before they are in Rapid Creek . Our waters here meaning the streams are not big enough to have pike in them . The Pike can wipe out a stream in no time at all.  It might come down to drastic measures like poisoning the stream and starting over . I hope it doesn't come down to that . I do know something has to be done but not that. Dave V

Sadly this sort of thing happens all the time.  Looka t those carp that jump out of water on the Mississippi.  They are trying desperately to keep them from making it to the great lakes.  Snake head is pretty much the asian equivalent of the northern pike, and they keep showing up everywhere in the country.  Why because some dill hole thought it would be cool.  The rumor I heard is that both the carp and snake head are highly valued by the chinese and it is suspected that they or someone looking to turn some profits with them planted them here in the states.

Out of curiousity what is the home range of Northern Pike?  We had them everywhere in Vermont, and people here in NH have on occasion asked me about it, as they have never caught one.  Also why are they so devastating to trout and salmon specifically?  There are many other species of fish that coexist with pike in the waters of Vermont.  Even lake trout in a lake that even boasts the rare occurence of the Northern Pike's bigger cousin the Musky (Lake Champlain).
