Hi

I just want to introduce myself to the members. Some of you may already know me as StrBender on other boards. I am located down here in MA and I have been fishing for at least 45 years (I'm 52) I started Fly Fishing 10 years ago and haven't fished any other way since. When I went to the open house at Tom Jutras's Mountain Road Fly Shop a few years ago I was so impressed with every ones (customers too!) guidance towards helping me get started tying flies, that I purchased a basic tying kit, book, materials etc. before I even left the party! LOL I haven't been able to stop tying since that day.

Up until recently I have had my own Carpentry business, working mostly alone. Between the economy, and the new regulations about to be put in place by the EPA I decided it was time for a change. So I have started a website selling custom tied flies. I know I will never get rich from it BUT I will be a LOT HAPPIER! LOL

I hope to add positive, helpful and fun posts and I hope that, at times my sense of humor isn't taken the wrong way. If it is I apologies in advance Smile

Hi Dave

I can't decide on a favorite fish, but I would say that any trout/salmon would have to be #1 with the Smallmouth Bass being #1a. Every year I tell myself that I'm going to start fishing the Salt with the fly, but I still haven't yet and I live about 2 miles from the coast and 1 mile from a coastal river. I don't know if Lee knows it but there are some huge smallies in my home towns reservoir. The last couple of seasons  we have had so little water in my local trout waters that I ventured into the warm water and it's a blast. I use to fish there a lot before I started flyfishing. Plus it's maybe 2 miles from home and seeing I drive a Ford F250 it allows for getting skunked with out getting mad Embarrased

I see your a hockey fan. I grew up playing and coached for a while. I have a nephew who just turned 18 and is playing his first year of TIII Jr A's. Last season he played in the North American Prospect Hockey League which is part of the NAHL. We were hoping that he would be in the USHL this season but he hurt his shoulder last season at a tournament and missed the other 3. The league is nation wide and they have 5 league wide tournaments so each team played each other once. It stunk that he got hurt because it was standing room only with scouts. Theres a chance that he may go back to that team in the next couple of weeks. His Jr coach isn't keeping his word on some things, so we have been talking with his old team. Because he would be going back to playing Midgets he wouldn't need to get a release from his Jr Team. A team mate from last year was also on the Jr Team and asked for his release but the coach wont give it to him. So he's back on the Midget team. I'll keep you posted if he does go back. They may have a tournament out your way and it's AAA so it's worth checking out.

Once I finish getting my website were I need it to be, so I can get back to tying. I will be more than happy to share some of my flies and what little knowledge i may have acquired tying them Wink

Welcome on this site! I can't wait to see some custom tied flies, I'm sick of adams and PTs and hendricksons. I actually don't even have them in my fly box, all of my flies are no names. Any thought about coming up north to fish? (NH) If so, please give me a sign!

I hear you on the Salmon Flies. Lee helped me with my Photo Album today (Thanks Lee) and one of the flies is my second attempt at tying a "fish able" Salmon Fly. Now that I'm doing a lot less carpentry work, I think I will have an easier time keeping my hands in tying shape! Don't try tying with silk with carpenter hands ProblemProblem

I will try and post it here
