I used to use nothing but 6X, now it is mostly 5X. But if the fish are wise I will go back to using 6X.
Lee
I use 5x when I know there is alot of places fish can tangle me up, 6x is my most common size to. On the Tounge River on this past trip can you believe 7x. The water and skis were so clear I had no choice. I only had one fish break me off. The fish made a run into some sticks and that was that.
Hi Dave
I use a 10 pound test tapered leader....Then tie about 3 feet
of 8 pound Maxima on the end for a tippet...But then I'm not
looking for small fish or tying on a fly smaller than a #10.
Same outfit applies to my trout fishing.

Stephen what size rod do you fish with ?
Stephen I use the same set up except when I do dry flies for trout I go down to 4lb test.
Must be a Maritimes thing??

Naw....Not just a Maritime thing...We're just frugal...With that setup a tapered leader will do two years or better
I use a 9 foot Daiwa graphite(kevlar wound),,Takes a 8wt line and
has backbone..
Not designed for playing 6 inch trout..With my rod by the time I set
the hook the trout is in the bushes behind me.
Stephen
LOL
I also use a 9' with 8 wt line but I have an old cheap 8' that I sometimes use for brooks .

Me I mostly use my 9 ft 4wt Gatti for streams, I have a 91/2 ft 7wt Sage which I use for bigger waters.
Generaly what size tippet do you fish with ?
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.
