Hey everyone,

Just thought I would throw this one out there. As most of you know, I have just started to fly fish this year and have slowly been growing the fly box to choose from. I have had some small success and learn something new every time I get out.

There are SO MANY FLIES out there and I hate to buy from the outlet stores where the flies have traveled across the ocean on a boat from thousands of miles away tied by someone who does not fish or could not pick out a fly rod among a stack of sticks.

So does anyone tie and sell flies? I mostly pursue trout and would rather pay one of you folks than anyone else.

PM me or post here and let me know what you all think.

Thanks,
Scott

Hey Scott I know Mike and Stephen tie and sell flies they might be able to help you out. Another Idea you might want to take the next step and tie your own flies Dave V

Scott don't listen to Dave, he is The Gatekeeper to fly tying, he's trying to pull you in. It is an addiction among other things and there is no cure, no way out, once you enter you start buying hooks and feathers, floss, thread, fur, synthetics, there is no end. When your not tying your talking about tying or thinking about tying, it consumes you. On the positive side there is nothing like catching a fish on a fly you tied and it fills the gap for the off season. Slide into it, it's alot of fun, and Dave posts alot of info and how to's in the flytying section here. I see 152 tying posts and I think Dave did 151 of them, after all he is The Gatekeeper.

You kill me Mr Caddis, Gate Keeper. Big Grin Scott Mr Caddis is absoluty correct tying flies is very addictive, Also correct when saying there is nothing like catching a trout on a fly you tied and came up with yourself. It isnt all that hard to do either. Look at some of the how to videos I posted and start tying. Get yourself a vise and a few hooks and some basic materail . Your best bet is to find a fly you like . Purchase that fly to look at as a guide. Tie that one fly over and over until you get it down pack. Then repeat with another fly you like.Happy tying the Gate Keeper Dave V lol

Dave I wish I had a dime for every time I go to the tying section here as well as some other sites but you never let me down with new patterns, some I'll use some not. I do find it relaxing (most of the time) but mainly I do it to fill my flybox. Also over the years I've met some cool, likeminded people, and if your real lucky your close enough to them to get together and tie as a group.

Thanks Mr Caddis , I try my best to find fly tying videos and step by steps you all can find usefull . Some I post because I find them unusal and intresting. Caddis if I lived closier to you guys out there in the east I would love to get together and have a group tying club. I sure would love to fish with you guys . Meet up and shoot the crap over breakfest or lunch. Share fishing stories and swap a flies . Heck I would love to go fishing and take pictures of you guy's in action. Scott I would tie a few flies for you at no cost . In fact that goes for of you on this site. Dave V

Ok Dave here's my list, also I don't think anyone else wants any so I'll take theirs as well. Nice offer buddy, much appreciated but I'll pass, however someday when you do get back east we could fish together and at that time I'll take one of your favorite streamer flies not to fish but to put aside. Scott take him up on it and also look into this book "Fly Tying Made Clear And Simple" by Skip Morris, comes with a spring binder, a great feature.

WOW you two are something else. I'm only sorry that I did not check in earlier.

I don't know if there is an excuse or if I am intimidated...I just don't feel that I have any extra time. I'm so busy during the summer with work, home, and any fishing, camping or golfing I can get done. It's always go-go-go.

I can understand the thrill of bringing in a fish on something you made yourself. I suppose I can compare it to the perfect deer stand placement were deer walk by you within 10' and don't have any idea your there. We made all of the decisions ourselves and nature failed to observe something unnatural.

Besides, any free time I have around the house goes into restoring my 7 year project a 68 mustang coupe. Possilby could be ready this year but I should plan on next year.

I could see myself tying and having fun with it, but one step at a time.

I hope this lack of ability does not make me less of a fisherman.

Dave I would take you up on your offer. But I could not do it for free! I would have great enjoyment on taking a fish on a fly from someone I actually had some type of relationship with.

Well this post certainly made for some interesting conversation.

Thanks guys,
Scott

Hey Scott I will send you some flies for you to try out. I would be curious on how well they would work on Maine trout. Dave V

would like to make any type of offer please let me know asap.
