The weather held off for my trip to Grand Lake Stream / West Grand Lake. We arrived around noon and got our licenses at the Pine Tree Store. While there we heard that the dam was going to be opened from 200 cfs to 500 cfs. So we headed down to the dam to watch, no big deal they just measure how high to raise the gate and raise it with some big wooden handles. Headed over to Grand Lake Lodge to meet Chris and got moved into the cabin. Nice set up with your own boat mooring, assigned per cabin. Headed right out fishing and trolled until supper. caught one Landlock salmon trolling in a small cove. Then I decided to head over to Hardwood island and on the way over we found a rocky shoal just barely poking out of the water. I was busy marking waypoints on my GPS and not paying attention to my rod. When I noticed that my rapala was underwater. Watched a lake trout trying to swim away with it. Gave a good tug and the fight was on, Laurie netted the fish and it measured 23 inches. Headed back to the lodge and was informed that lake trout was "respectable" I wasn't sure what was the average. We tried a few pools above and below Little Falls, Laurie did see one trout and one salmon jump but that was it. Fished the second day with no strikes at all, pulled out around supper time and headed home. New RAV worked out very well for hauling the boat, you really don't even notice it behind you. Had a good trip and landed home around 9 Pm.

Very nice report Bill. Next time you fish the River try small nymphs, size 18 or 20 Pheasent Tail. Dead drift with a strike indicator and I believe you will get into some fish.

Great looking fish Bill. Do you have a guess on how heavy it was? It looks like you had a great weekend for it.

Really nice looking laker Bill , Have you ever tried trolling streamers ? Nice looking cabins. Looks like you had good weather for trolling. Was there any snow left in the woods ? How were the black flies ? Dave V

Yes I've trolled big streamers many times and tie them myself, I switch back and forth between rapalas and streamers, whatever strikes my fancy. Some times I troll three streamers, which is legal in NB all on the same rod. I didn't see any snow left in the woods. The black fly's were just getting started and weren't too bad. I would estimate the laker to weight perhaps 4 lbs, maybe 3. It was pretty thick fish.
