Team work my freind. Have one guy with a chainsaw venture out onto the ice with his rubber ducky floaties for safty. Then cut a hole using chainsaw. Now start casting. If no takes then its time to swtich out and move to new location. Now the person whom was casting needs to take chainsaw and venture out onto ice, Be sure to take rubber ducky floaties to be safe. Start chainsaw and repear process until successful. Have fun and remember take lots of pictures. Dave V
Stephen, what kinds of fish do you get out of that river? I'm sure it's worth the wait but you must be going nuts looking at that view all day waiting to thaw. Hang in there.
Hi Caddisfly4
The Tobique River was a great salmon river, but 3 power
dams have slowed it down considerably. The sudden
disappearance of salmon returning to all Bay of Fundy
rivers did not help either. Returns lately have not met with
spawning requirements so salmon fishing is closed for the
Tobique.. Most tributaries have fair to middling trout fishing.
The upper portion of the main river has great trout fishing in
the Spring(about fiddlehead picking time).
There is a power dam located just above the mouth of the river. This created a head pond about 10 miles long. The upper end of the head pond is about a mile downriver from
me. The head pond contains small mouth bass up to 5 pounds. The whole Tobique river is a great canoeing river
containing no sudden surprises when you round the turn.
A popular event is the annual "Fiddlers on the Tobique".
Fiddle players from all over (and anyone else with a canoe)board canoes and rafts and
play as they float down the river. A great weekend for everyone.
Picture of Tobique River conditions this afternoon. Two days of wet weather and milder temps do make a difference.
Ice should be gone in the next few days...If the weather holds.
Holly cow Stephen all I said was cut a little hole man you have been busy you got most of that river licked.
So what do you figure about a month before its right ?
I have attached a picture of the Tobique River in front of my home

to give you some idea of the present ice conditions. As you can see,
it is thinning rapidly and losing it's grip on the shoreline.
Happy Fishing and Tying
