I just got back from the White and Norfork Rivers in Arkansas. Four of us including Mike, mbeng7 from this site, left last Sunday and drove for 24+ hours to get down there from Mass. A long ride and wouldn't do it that way again, a stop over would have been better. Got there at 8:30 Monday morning, stayed at the River Ridge Inn in Norfork (great place) right on the river, unpacked the truck and went to the rack for 3 hours. We fished the Norfork first, a small tailwater which dumps into the White, we caught lots of fish in the 10 to 16 inch range, bows, browns, cuts and brookies. Mike being the only one to land all 4 refered to as the Arkansas Grand Slam, myself I didn't land any browns. The second day we had guides on the White. Very cold lots of ice on the guides till around 2 in the afternoon. Two of us, Mike and I landed around 50 fish, mostly bows and a few browns thrown in. The third day back to the Norfork with not so many fish, but atleast it was starting to warm up. We then moved down to the C&R area where the fish were mostly in the 10 to 12 inch range but nice colors, and they liked the size 20 to 24 flies. Thursday we went back to the White and waded up to the dam landing some nice bows and browns and loosing some as well still getting warmer into the 70's. Friday two of the guys fished with a guide and myself and my buddy Bob rented a boat and drifted the C&R area near the dam on the White. None of us caught any of the hogs that the area is famous for but we all landed and released fish and had a good time. Took two days to drive home after all none of us are getting any younger. Some pics in album.

Lee, friends of mine have fished there for the last 10 years and done very well. I have wanted to go there for years and we took the shot this year. No crowds at this time and weather usually in the 40 to 50 range. We made the plans on the internet and I must have a horseshoe somewhere cause we got lucky all around. We brought all our own food and drinks and the lodge we stayed at had a full kitchen and each guy had a queen sized bed two to a room, sitting area and a deck over looking the river. Cheap enough trip too. Two hundred a night for 4 people in the house, twenty nine for a seven day license, around two hundred for gas and tolls each way and eighty six each for all our food and man did we eat. Fishing was good not great compared to other years before last years flood but none of us can complain we all did well.

Caddis how many days did you fish for?? Sure can't beat the prices that you quoted. Sounds a lot like the trips I have taken to the Miramichi to fish Atlantic Salmon. Week trip, 5 days fishing and day for travel at each end, and around $800 to $1000 us for each, that includes a guide for each fisherman and a boat.

Five days fishing, actually four and a half days fishing because we lost part of Monday from exhaustion from the ride down. If you ever decide on going I have alot of info, some things I would change. Live and learn.
