Have you ever used braided leaders ? Do you make your own ? Do you buy yours already made ?

I have been using a braided leader now for the last 13 years . What I like about them is the loop connection straight to my fly line and a loop connection of tippet straight to the braided leader. This allows for a fast switch out of tippet and saves money at the same time. The braided leader runs about $10.00 US dollars and last for a few years if kept clean. Then I buy tippet and form a loop at the end and connect it to my braided leader. So if I have a brake off or I need to go to a larger or smaller size tippet I can change it out in seconds. Orivs sells the braided leader not sure of other companies . Do any of you use the product besides me ? Dave V

PS the leader is pretty much invisible in the water.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.

Last year I sat on the bank and watched a couple of lads fishing
with braided leaders and a mono tippet. The leader curled out
very nicely. BUT...the tippet and fly were landing very haphazardly....In my mind I felt that they were using way too long a tippet.
Tried building one a while ago...Nice tangle and a total waste of thread.
I buy a 10 pound tapered leader. Cut off the heavy end,
Nail knot it to my fly line and add a couple of feet of 8 pound
Maxima for a tippet...One tapered leader does me several years. Old fashioned I guess.

Happy Fishing and Tying

I use maxima ultragreen or chameleon and start with a 30lb butt then hit every size down to what ever tippit suits where I'm fishing. Main river or big water you can get away with lighter tippit, however on smaller iceage scraped out out granite strewn streams I usually go a little bigger say 10 to 12 lb because they tend to last, oh say for 3 seconds when wrapped around a jagged rock vice one second for 8lb.
