That story takes place on the Rapid River which comes out of Richardson Lake at Middle Dam.
The camp which is still there is on the north/west side of the river below Lower Dam (which is now gone) and Pond in the River. I have fished there many times and it is a magical place with beautiful wild Brook Trout and Salmon.

It is pretty cool for sure . They were some tough folks for sure. They talk about the river allot and about the logging days where they would send the timber down river. They go over their lives during winter and how they adapt to survive. They also talk about tying flies and fly fishing . I love how they talk about city folk . She also talks about how her son was born. with no docs around in the middle of winter.. I had to laugh about the trips to the out house during minus zero weather. I think its awesome how she said she would never trade it in even if they were to come across money. . They mention the Carrie Rd in the book allot. I would have to say that is Carrie Stevens the world famous New England streamer tier although they never mention her . Just my guess.
PS nice photo Lee. I have seen that dam in the moive the One.
Thanks for the info Dave I'll get the Mrs to find me a copy at the library or somewhere
If you guys liked this book you'll like this one. "Richardson Lakes Jewels in the Rangeley Chain" Talks more about the history of the entire area. Lot's of interesting characters. I'm just a little biased on this one because my grandfather is mentioned in it. He worked as a guide and fire warden in the area in the 20 and 30's He knew all the folks, Louise, Carrie, etc.
I think Amazon might have it

A story about a family who took to the north woods of Maine back in the 30's . The book was published in 1942 The story took place around the Rangley Lake area. Its a story on the hardships of living in that area without the things we take for granted like power , warmth , food. and easy travel. The authur Louise Dickinson Rich tells her stroy with humor and enthuiasm. I found myself glued to the book as I read it. I recommend this book a very good read. Dave V
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.
