NB Bronze Back Update
Well we are home from the lake, one crew moved out and another moves in, we might need a revolving door lol. Kylie's total catch for this summer is 324 NB Bronze Backs. With her largest being around a foot or so. I know that C+R works as you could see where some chub had been hooked before. Kylie says that she only had three die on her and I'm sure that the mergansers lugged them away that coupled with the half dozen that I used to fertilize my tomato plants I'd say that they faired pretty good. There were even two smallmouth bass caught right off the dock, I landed a 17 inch bass using a flyrod and bread for bait. One thing that the chub really liked this year is the bag of trout pellets that my brother in law brought. They would literally jump right out of the water to get them ahead of their competitors.

Wow 324 fish thats quite a bundle of hook ups. Good job. Ya they do make good fertilizer not sure how they would taste. , Good update Bill

I have never eaten chub before but I've been told that they aren't bad if they're caught out of cold water early in the spring. Tomatoes are growing fantastic. they were leftovers from my brother in laws garden so I planted them in some pots and they are growing better than his are in the garden. To be fair he's having quite a few deer dine on his garden nightly that is slowing things down there.

Thats how I grow my tomatos to in pots . seams to work out nicely . Get a pretty good batch out of a few pots. Heck the size of them chubs you guy's catch if they were good eating would feed a family of four one fish.
OK guys had to use a flashy subject line just to get your attention. Now I know that your thinking smallmouth bass but New Brunswick Bronze Backs is kind of an inside family joke beteen my brother and I. A few years back he was down on vacation from Manitoba with his son and his friend. They were staying out at the cabin on Harvey lake before they got there he had the young fellas all primed up for the spectacular NB Bronze back fishing that there were going to have at Harvey lake. Now ofcourse those young fellas being from Manitoba never saw a chub before or a bass so they had a whale of a time reeling them chub in one right after another. I'm pretty sure that after a few hours of fishing from shore in front of the camp my brother told them that they had to stop fishing for the day as they were going to exceed their catch and release limit for the day. Pretty sure by then they'd caught on. Well anyway my daughter and I have been fishing out there and she keeps count every time she goes fishing and so far she's a 214 fast closing on last years catch of 300. She's even been catching a few on fly's. My brother in law brought a bag of trout pellets out and you'd think that they'd love them, lots of protein actually really good for the fish but no they still prefer old bread, jump right out of the water trying to get ahead of the other fish.
