Spent three days fishing the ponds around Rangeley two weeks back with two friends. The rivers were all blown out and unsafe to fish so we opted for stillwater. The trick was finding a feeder stream and fishing the edge of the current. Finding small streams was not a problem because they were blown out as well and running very high. Little Mikey Fins were the fly of choice. Here are a couple of the larger fish we caught. Notice the one I'm holding (Red shirt) is starting to grow a hump in his back. Looks like his cousins from Labrador

Hey Paul really nice looking fish, Just think in a few weeks when the water levels drop there should be some really hot action on the fly rods.

Dave V & Dave G

Dave G. No I didn't use the telephone pole on this trip. I only have used it on big open rivers so far. Haven't caught anything exciting yet but I will. Dave V... Dave G hosted a rod building class this winter at a local fly shop. It's a no name cheapy blank I bought on ebay. It's a telephone pole for sure. I only bought it for the reach I can get not the quality. It's not a casting rod it's more like the wicked long old fashioned bamboo rods kids used to use for dunking worms. I use it for drifting wets and dappling dries and can cover a lot of water just standing in one spot and not casting.

Hey Paul thats pretty cool. I have always wanted to build my own rod. I think I would start out with a cheepy as you say for my first rod to . That way if I messed up it wouldnt be such a big deal. As far as the cheepy it would also make a good trolling fly rod . One of these days I have to give it a shot.
