I was just wondering if anyone has any experiance in making a fly fishing movie. If so how did they go about it ? How can someone like myself make a video and post it here on site ?

Hi Dave

If I read this post correctly you are wondering about puting up a move on the site. First do you use Windows XP, if so you can take the clips you have and make a move with XP movemaker. Because of the upload limit of 2 megs it will best if you post the video on YouTube then use the embedded link to post it here on the site, like you have done with flytying video's. I have never posted to YouTube but it can't be too hard to do, everyone seems to be doing it. Look into that stratagy for the video. For sure try movemaker, you can do some nice things with it.

How serious do you want to get with this? And how much money do you want to spend? If you want to just have fun making them and not invest a lot of time and money I would go with what Lee suggested. You can download Windows movie maker for free. Just do a google search and the link will show. It's a pretty good progam for a freebie. It allows you to do some basic editing and transitions. It's simple to figure out and has a wizard to walk you thru the process as well. If you want to go more high end with sound and text overlays cool transitions your going to have to get buy a software application to do that. You probably got an editing program with the camera most do come with one. How good it is depends on the brand. I would check. There's a bunch of 3rd party programs out there and you might be able to MAYBE find a freebie. Try tucows.com. I've only ever used Adobe Premire and After effects and there great but they're very expensive and is probably way overkill for what you want to do. If you want to go that route great I'm more than willing to help you get going. Basically you want to end up with a movie that is going to be able be streamed to run on the internet. Streaming if you don't know what it means is the movie starts to play before it's completely downloaded from the server. The movie needs to be compressed down in file size in order for it to stream. MPG, Quicktime, and windows media are the top three compressed formats used on the internet. Look for an application that will allow you to save the final product out into this format. Windows Movie maker does. Your probably going to get more milage with a windows media version, meaning most people will be able to view it. I only ever put a movie on YouTube once and it was over a year and a half ago. I don't remember the format it required in order to post but they did have certain requirements. I'm sure it's on their website. I don't think it was all that hard. It can't be because they would have a million clips on their site if it was. Hope this helps and ask if you have more questions.

Maybe you have a tripod... if not think about one for filming your fly tying. It will make thing a lot easier. I used to set mine on the table in front of me and that didn't work well. Every little movement I made caused the camera to move. You can also use it in the field while fishing. If your solo you can set it up on the bank and film your self fishing.
